JVC's HR-FS1U brings you VHS recording and playback in an executive style. The HR-FS1 is a compact, unique design that doesn't look like a home appliance and won't monopolize your desk or shelf space. The JVC HR-FS1 features hi-fi stereo and a four-head design that also boasts great sound, even better recording quality, and great special effects, like slow motion, freeze frame, and variable speed search.

The LCD changes color to tell you the current mode (yellow means "power on," red indicates recording, and green playback), while "plug 'n' play" simplifies setup. VCR Plus makes timer recording easy. A multibrand TV-cable-satellite remote control completes the package.

I'M NOT A BIG JVC FAN, BUT I PURCHASED THIS VCR TO COMPLIMENT MY NEW JVC AV-36D302 36" TELEVISION. IT'S A SMALL COMPACT, LIGHTWEIGHT VCR THAT'S VERTICAL SO IT CAN GO ON A BOOKSHELF OR WHEREEVER. IF YOUR ASHAMED YOU HAVE A VCR AND NOT A DVD PLAYER YET (LIKE ME), THIS IS THE VCR FOR YOU BECAUSE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ONE. AS FAR AS VCR'S GO, THE FEATURES ARE GREAT: 4-HEADS, SUPER HI-FI, SEVERAL LANGUAGES, CLOCK, TIMERS, ETC. THE ONLY THINGS I SEE WRONG ARE TWO MINOR IRRITATIONS: FIRST, THE VCR IS KIND OF LOUD WHEN REWINDING AND FAST-FORWARDING. SECOND, WHEN YOU USE THE REMOTE TO FAST-FORWARD OR REWIND TO A CERTAIN SPOT YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN. MOST VCR'S ALLOW YOU TO HIT THE BUTTON AND LET GO AND WATCH THE FAST FORWARDING OR REWINDING TO GET THROUGH PREVIEWS, ETC. THIS DOES NOT. OTHERWISE I'M VERY HAPPY. MY WIFE SAYS THE SILVER COLOR IS REAL 70'S AND OUT OF STYLE...HOWEVER EVERY BRAND NAME ELECTRONIC THESE DAYS IS MORE SILVER THAN BLACK. I LIKE SILVER, A LITTLE DIFFERENT...HOPEFULLY IT WON'T GO OUT OF STYLE THOUGH.

Product could not be sent to APO/FPO address for some unknown reason, that in itself was disappointing. Had to have sent to family member first, then sent to my APO address.

Product shipped without remote, should not be a problem as there are many universal remotes on the market. However, no remote reflects poorly on the seller which is the only reason I gave a 3 star rating.

Other than the above, the VHS player functions as advertised.
