5.0 out of 5 stars DVD player/VHS review
The machine is working perfectly so far. The only problem that I have had with it had to do with my not knowing hat tuner-free meant when I ordered it, consequently there is no place to screw the coax into the back. It plays DVD's and Tapes perfectly but that is all that it does. The clock, the timer and all the recording on the VCR does not work at all. This comes from...

I recommend buyers look at the Amazon reviews for defunct JVC VHS/DVD
dual deck products before they purchase any current dual deck model.
They have a proven history of extremely poor build quality. JVC keeps
rapidly changing model numbers, which makes this more difficult for
the consumer to discover. However they all look very similar with
only slight cosmetic differences.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I purchased this product because the information seemed complete and it seemed to fit my existing equipment. I also saw reviews of other items which were less than cheering. This one was unreviewed, and, thus, a mistake to purchase. When I received the unit, after trying and failing to follow the instructions, I called JVC "product service" who tell me, for the first time, that this model is not supported by a simple cable connection, but needs a box. Thankfully, Amazon sent approval for return of the unit. I would have given this zero stars, but that seems not allowed.

1.0 out of 5 stars DVD Door Will Not Stay Closed, February 24, 2009
This review is from: JVC HRXVC11B Progressive Scan DVD Player and VCR Combo (Electronics)
I have the DR-MV7 model. It looks the same as this one. I only used the recorder a few times over the year. It wasn't long before the dvd door began giving me problems staying closed. At first, I could hold the door closed and the dvd would read. After a while, the dvd would not read at all and the door kept popping open. Before you buy any of these JVC models you might want to surf the internet for reviews. Too bad as my unit looks good as new inside and out.

Poor reliability. After a year of not too frequent use, my JVC VCR/DVD was unusable--The video output was often distorted in some manner. Tried various remedies, but nothing worked. Wasn't worth fixing. JVC has certainly declined in quality--Maybe because they're now making products in Indonesia.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this machine, July 12, 2010
This review is from: JVC HRXVC11B Progressive Scan DVD Player and VCR Combo (Electronics)
I've played lots of tapes (that I recorded from other VCRs) and after about 10-15 minutes the sound starts fading out and then comes back. It does this repeatedly making the tapes hard to watch. The tech at the store I bought it from tells me that there is nothing wrong with the set and they refuse to do anything, but meanwhile it keeps giving me problems. They blame it on the tapes and the sets I recorded them from, but I don't believe them. I tape on two different VCRs in other rooms, and I watch the tapes on two other VCRs (all my five VCRs are new) and this is the only VCR that gives me trouble. Buy some other machine, not this.

5.0 out of 5 stars JVC VHS/DVD player for playing your favorite classics, August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC HRXVC11B Progressive Scan DVD Player and VCR Combo (Electronics)
The JVC VHS/DVD player is still a necessity- we still do have VHS and can get them cheaply- quality is less reliable than a DVD but great for those who have an old collection in their homes. The player runs smoothly, has well-made components, and delivers at optimum. I like to record things on VHS tapes TV as DVD player usually do not have recording capacity. I had been hunting for a great price, and at $70, this was it- great quality, great price, and great reliability. I have owned JVC electronic items and they are built to last. I am hoping that this will be the last VHS player that I will own. I am pretty sure even when VHS goes entirely out, I will be using the DVD component.

THe only things is that the unit is bulky so you need more shelf space, but then, VHS tapes are big and bulky so there is not much choice there. Overall, I think this is the best buy.

I purchased this JVC Combo
unit and in description what you dot read might hurt you, well found out that in order to watch dvd or vcr successfully I must
purchase an "RF" box to make proper connection complete and enjoy unit, since TV dosen't support terminals of red,white.yellow.This hook-up will go to converter box used for tv. I would lie to have known however
the scene of back of unit
before hand... (it would hav been very helpful)
