Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

With a robust design straight from the sci-fi cinema, the JVC HX-D77 mini system certainly looks powerful. Fortunately for users, the housing isn't just for show, as the 540-watt portable unit includes twin 185-watt GIGA-tube low-pass subwoofers, along with a pair of 85-watt main speakers. The speaker combination creates monster bass that far surpasses the low-frequency output of most mini systems, giving your CDs and DVDs the rich, full-bodied audio they deserve. The overall effect is vast and potent, especially when enhanced by one of the three sound modes (rock, pop, classic) or the four specially designed game modes (RPG, sports, action, and night).

The HX-D77 isn't just about power, however. It also serves as a fully functional home theater system (just add TV) thanks to the five-disc DVD changer that supports DVD Audio, DVD Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3/WMA (on CD-R/RW) formats, while offering such playback features as track programming, repeat play, and random play. Users can also connect a game console, camcorder, or other device through the front A/V inputs--a nice feature for folks with older, input-deprived TVs or who don't want to fiddle with a TV's back panel just to hook up the GameCube.

To make MP3-CD and WMA-CD playback more informative, JVC added ID3 tagging, which lets users read the artist and track data on the front readout. And should listeners tire of CDs, they can turn to the digital AM/FM tuner, which offers a host of station presets for easy and quick surfing.

Audio-wise, the HX-D77 stands ready to blow the roof off. In addition to offering a room-thumping bass response, each of the four-way bass-reflex speakers is bi-amped--meaning the system drives the main speakers and subwoofers separately--to minimize distortion and create a cleaner overall sound. In other words, the bass is loud but not muddled. And if that weren't enough, JVC also added a Sound Turbo function, which intensifies the sound at the touch of a button. Need to pump up the volume for your backyard party or basement funk fest? Look no further than Sound Turbo.

Listeners with large digital music collections, meanwhile, will dig the front auxiliary input and USB PC link. The auxiliary input lets you connect an iPod, personal MP3 player, or other portable music device to the HX-D77, so you can share all your favorite playlists with friends and without headphones. The USB link works in much the same manner, except it connects to your PC or Mac and gives you access to the music stored on your hard drive. You can even listen to live streaming Internet radio or stored podcasts on the HX-D77's powerful speakers.

Additional features include two-channel Dolby Digital and DTS decoding (ideal for DVD soundtracks), JVC's 3-D Phonic virtual surround sound mode, an Eco mode that conserves energy, and a headphone jack for private listening. As with all of JVC's compact audio systems, the HX-D77 is covered by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

What's in the Box
HX-D77 mini system, two speakers, remote control, user's manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Hitter, October 29, 2006

This review is from: JVC HX-D77 540-Watt DVD Mini System with AM/FM Tuner and 4-Way Bass-Reflex Speakers (Electronics)
I bought my system a couple months ago and I still can't believe how powerful it is. I live in a dorm and there's students here with stereo systems 2 to 3 times bigger than mine but is no match the JVC. I've connected the system to my PC for itunes and the sound is unbelievable!!! Really, U couldn't ask for more BASS. It's definitely loud enough although it could use a couple surround sound speakers to prevent the vocals from being drowned by the bass(When Bass Level is at Max). I'll probably upgrade next year only for the appearence of the next model. I hope this review was helpful because this system is definitely a winner!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great system for a great price, September 30, 2006
This review is from: JVC HX-D77 540-Watt DVD Mini System with AM/FM Tuner and 4-Way Bass-Reflex Speakers (Electronics)
I just bought this system to listen to my XM radio, CD collection, radio, and everything else. Controls are easy to use after a few minutes with the manual. The sounds is great and it looks cool! It is small enough to fit on a desk or dresser if you are limited on space, yet the sound fills the largest of rooms. It sounds good at low volume as well as a higher one. The added features of USB, RCA inputs, and DVD player make this a deal at twice the price.
