This product does what JVC's web site claims it does, and was relatively easy to install.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine with iPod BUT Does not work with iPhone/iTouch, September 4, 2008
This review is from: JVC KSPD100 Adapter for iPod Interface (Electronics)
I bought two of these for my, and my wifes car as we both have the JVC-KDHR1 head unit. It worked fine for my wife, who has an older iPod. Though navigating the menus via the head unit can be complicated and confusing until you get used to it.

This unit did not work for me however. I have the same head unit, but use an iPod Touch. When connected the head continuously displays "CHECKING" and the iTouch displays "External Device Connected" whenever video or music is selected. No audio can be played or heard when the unit is connected. The problem seems to be that the iTouch is "aware" that an external controller is connected, but the JVC head unit is incapable "talking" to the iTouch. Apparently the external control interface, or command protocol, for the iTouch is different than previous iPods. Either JVC must implement this interface in their newer head units, or the iTouch needs to have a software mode that emulates an older iPod.

I would be happy, even happier, if I could simply connect the iTouch via the control cable and have it 1) charge the iTouch, and 2) provide audio to the head unit. I don't need to control the iTouch via the head unit. This way it would function just like any iPod speaker/amplifier docking station. I feel certain there should be some hack or way of "fooling" the head unit into simply accepting the iTouch audio and provide charging voltage, but I haven't yet discovered one.

In the interim I purchased another JVC connector cable that simply converts the same head unit input to a line level RCA stereo connection. I connect to that cable with, yet another, adapter cable that converts dual RCA (male) to 1/8" stereo (male) for the iTouch headphone jack. I also purchased a combination cigarette lighter holder-mount/charger/FM transmitter for the iTouch ridiculously cheap on eBay. I tried the FM transmitter and found the resulting audio extremely weak. So now I keep the iTouch mounted and connected to the holder for charging, and also connected to the head unit via the 1/8" headphone output. It's a complicated arrangement that also results in ignition noise, probably due to the multitple grounding paths provide by both cables. Still it's better than just the FM transmitter until a better solution becomes available.

3.0 out of 5 stars You must control the IPod thru the stereo with this, June 15, 2007
I bought the adapter to go with the JVC car stereo with HD radio. I felt the IPod adapter would be superior to the generic adapter because you can charge your IPod while you drive. The thing I didn't count on is that you give up all ability to control the IPod, except through the stereo unit.

Now, everyone knows that Apple is renowned for its user interface. Well, forget about using the click wheel, looking at lists of songs, etc. You are forced to navigate through the contents of your IPod using a one-line monochromatic display. Frankly, this sucks. There should be an option as to where you can control your IPod. I am returning the IPod adapter and going with the generic headphone jack.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, limited functionality., December 7, 2009

This adapter was just what I was looking for. I have had my JVC car stereo for a couple years, but I wanted a more convenient method of storing and playing my music, so I got an iPod and this adaptor. It was easy to install and I did not find it difficult to learn to navigate the menus on the JVC front panel. I did have one major disappointment which is the reason for the 3 star rating. Although the product manual states that the iPod will charge whenever the stereo is on, when I plugged in my gen4 Nano, the screen on the iPod displayed a message that this adaptor did not support charging. So my listening time in the car is limited to the internal battery life of the iPod.

5.0 out of 5 stars JVC iPod adapter, June 5, 2008
This review is from: JVC KSPD100 Adapter for iPod Interface (Electronics)
This is exactly what I was looking for when I decided on the JVC KD-HDR1 receiver. Installation was a snap, and the box even included a piece of double sided tape to secure the item up under the dash. Both cords are plenty long to mount the unit almost anywhere in or under the dash. The controls blend right into the operation of the receiver, and since my iPod is a 3G, 15GB, there are even some options for shuffle play that I don't have such as shuffle by artist and by album.

As reported elsewhere, the movement through the songs or artists is a bit slow. You just can't replace the speed of the wheel with a remote control. However, when you hold down the button on the remote to scroll, the songs start to jump at about 10 at a time. Not great, but adequate to get where you want to go while stopped at a stop light.

Overall, I am very pleased with the functionality and amount of control that I have via the remote - a feature that was a deal breaker in choosing JVC over the other brands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, March 26, 2008
This review is from: JVC KSPD100 Adapter for iPod Interface (Electronics)
The adapter fit nicely behind my stereo head unit, it came with all the cables needed and was really easy to install. I now see the song titles from my ipod (installed in the glove box)and I can put my ipod on random play from the car stereo interface. One great thing is that if I am listening to a song and stop the car, the ipod stops at that point in the song so that if I grab the ipod and start listening it's right where I left off. One bad things is that the adapter / head unit don't seem to recognize podcasts. I had to reorganize my podcasts into play list so I could listen to them on the car stereo

I have really loved having this in my car. It makes listening to my iPod in the car a breeze. Using the remote or the faceplate to navigate through the files is intuitive. There is no sacrifice of quality unlike other solutions for listen to the iPod in the car (i.e. monster FM transmitters, tape decks.) I would recommend this product to anyone (actually my little sister just ordered one on my recommendation.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Coolest device ever, October 25, 2007
This review is from: JVC KSPD100 Adapter for iPod Interface (Electronics)
Easy to use, nothing to install-took 30 secs. I love the ability to be able
keep iPod in glove and control my music. I have been using a iTrip for years
-its a great product, but this so much better. Especially if traveling between different big cities- you never have to re-adjust your iPod because your FM station is being used.
