This review is from: JVC KTHDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 Transportable HD Radio Receiver with Car Kit (Electronics)
Pros:
if you want an easy to install cheap HD receiver unit, this is for you
-The unit is fairly easy to install if you do it yourself, though you would want to have basic understanding of your own car and how to hook up a car radio and some mechanical knowledge.
other then that you should have a professional or someone with knowledge of car radios to install it for you
-come with a good quality car kit and mount.
-Easy to program and easy navigation of menus
-good price and nice simple LCD screen

Cons:
-a lot of wires hanging about unless you can some how organize it well, if you don't like a lot of wires hanging about, you'll probably think about an internal HD car radio instead of a external receiver unit.
-Unit does gets a bit hot, but i there doesn't seem to be any problems with it as of yet
-depending on your car, the receiver uses AUX port or the tape player adapter, if you don't have one, there is installation instructions for cars without AUX, but its going to be a little harder to install.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great unit, May 16, 2010

I love it. Does everything it claims very well. I am not sure what else to add positive about it. Comes with a car kit and the kit rocks also. My suggestion is to wrap, wrap, wrap your cords. They are LONG and can be a mess if you dont take care in the beginning. But it can go where you need it.

CONS: Only one con. You can NOT save the 2nd station oh HD stations if there is more than one. So if you perfer the 2nd station, you have to click on the spot you saved it, then UP to the 2nd station in the HD multicast. Seems like they just need to address this in a firmware update.

4.0 out of 5 stars hd sounds great, September 23, 2009

HD sounds great, but when the hd signal fades stock stereo sounds better. The professional car kit is simple to install for anyone with simple mechanical skills. the only other problem you may encounter is placement of receiver. Overall a great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for < 25 bucks, September 17, 2011

I bought this out of curiosity, to see if I could adapt the stereo in my study for HD. It was easy to do with the addition of a Motorola (car antenna plug) to BNC (standard antenna) adapter from Radio Shack ($5). I live in a suburban area with strong FM signals, so no problem here pulling in HD quality signals with a cheapie indoor "zip cord dipole" antenna hanging on the wall behind some pictures. Pros: easy to set up by an amateur. Pulls in plenty of HD signals. Cons: The unit has 18 FM memory channels, but you can only store the -1 stream in memory. Also, if you ever lose the signal, even for an instant (due to a static crash for example), the unit reverts back to the -1 stream. Still, for $25, I'm a happy camper with my new toy. Make sure you get the model with the installation kit, not just the bare receiver. I've seen other reviews that state this unit runs hot. It certainly doesn't run any hotter than my XM Sky-Fi tuner. I think heat is a non-issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Functional but not perfect, January 25, 2011

This review is from: JVC KTHDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 Transportable HD Radio Receiver with Car Kit (Electronics)
First of all, this product does exactly what it claims. It allows you to access HD (digital) radio through your car's audio system, including "HD2" and "HD3" stations. The instructions that come with it are more than adequate for anyone who is sufficiently skilled to attempt the installation. The audio quality is excellent, and it has certainly opened up my experience to a lot more radio station choices.

Here are my complaints. For the most part these are minor things but potential buyers should be aware... In my 2008 Chevy Impala, the antenna would not hook up directly--I had to buy an adapter kit (inexpensive from ebay), and my Chevy antenna actually required the Chrysler adapter - go figure. After installing the adapter, I have noticed a degradation in radio reception (both analog and HD) when using the rear defroster in my car. This is because the antenna is attached to the back window and I am assuming the antenna adapter, now installed in-line, does not include the proper shielding to prevent this static.

In addition, I echo other reviewers comments about LONG cables. They do give you a little cable wrap to secure the excess length, but at some point you still have to find a spot to tuck in that large bundle. Also, the swivel base they give you to mount the control head is large and also requires a large flat space to mount it. I simply couldn't find a big enough flat space on my dash to mount the thing, so I have left the control head dangling loose for now. When the weather warms up, I'll find a permanent home for it, and I'll use some double sided foam tape instead of their swivel base.

Aside from those comments, you can't complain about the value for the money. This is a great buy if you want to get in on the benefits of HD radio with a small investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars HD radio in my car now. Its great!, May 24, 2010

While the install is straight forward on most cars, mine was very complicated. I had a professional use everything in the kit plus some more, and when he was done I realized that on a 2004 Ford Taurus Sedan I was glad to leave the installation to a pro. I am very pleased with the results, and recommend this product to all.

Device works well, had to purchase and modify adapter cables to work with an 08 Ford Explorer. Unit runs hot would be my only complaint.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks good, but low fm signal output, April 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC KTHDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 / KT-HDPK1 Transportable HD Radio Receiver with Car Kit (Electronics)
We purchased this JVC model for in home use and while it has good features, a great price and amazon was flawless as usual...the wireless fm output seems low.

Has anyone figured out how to boost signal with an internal adjustment?

Please advise.

Features and low price make this a 5star unit if I can boost the output signal.

That is all.

Brad.
