Product Description

Amazon.com

JVC's KW-AVX830 is a double-DIN multimedia receiver, featuring a built-in 7-inch widescreen touch panel monitor with proximity sensor, and a detachable face panel. Enjoy audio and video from iPod/iPhone and USB devices, with a wealth of file types supported. Get GUI and song information in 10 languages, apply advanced EQ settings, or add HD Radio and SAT Radio with optional tuners.

A multimedia powerhouse with room to grow. Click to enlarge.

Proximity sensor will detect as your hand approaches to operate.

Two-way control for iPod/iPhone.

Bluetooth with easy switching between devices.

7-inch Widescreen Touch Panel Monitor
Get a great picture with the 7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen, supporting both PAL and NTSC video formats with 336,960 pixels.

Proximity Sensor
The KW-AVX830 features a unique proximity sensor. When your hand approaches, the screen activates and control keys appear. When left untouched, the keys disappear so you can concentrate on the main screen.

Detachable Face Panel
Upon exiting your vehicle, you can detach the double-DIN face panel and carry it in the included case (or hide it in the vehicle) to help guard against theft.

Built-in Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Drive more safely (or legally depending on where you live) with hands-free calling. The included wired microphone offers flexible settings for clear communication. The Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) for iPhone lets you automatically access your phone book without transfer. You can also manually transfer up to 400 numbers from compatible cell phones. Changing from hands-free to a private conversation can be done by a push of a key. You can also easily switch Bluetooth connection between 2 phones, such as for business/private use.

Old and New Media
Play back your favorite DVDs, VCDs and CDs--the monitor folds down for a slot-loading disc player. Of course, many of us now have a library of digital files, and JVC's AV series addresses this with support for WAV/MP3/WMA audio files, playback of MPEG 1/2 video, and display of JPEG images.

Enjoy Dolby Digital sound to accompany your video content, along with a three-band parametric EQ for tweaking things to your preference.

USB Audio and Video for iPod/iPhone
The USB connection for iPod/iPhone provides clear digital sound directly from your iPod or iPhone. You can also enjoy video by adding the optional KS-U30 cable.

While your device is in use, it also receives a charge, so it's ready to step out of the car when you do.

System Building
While the KW-AVX830 gives you a MOSFET 50W x 4 amplifier to begin with, it offers plenty of room to grow with three 5V preamp terminals (front, rear, subwoofer), a subwoofer control, and a high-pass filter. Set up your ideal audio system.

On the video front, this receiver features AV & Video inputs, for adding external devices like video game systems, and a video line output for setting up an external monitor for your passengers. Dual Zone operation means the kids can enjoy a movie in back while you listen to the radio up front, or other combinations to keep everyone happy.

Still after a few more entertainment options? Adding HD or Satellite Radio is as easy as connecting one of JVC's tuners to the expansion port.

Last but not least, the KW-AVX830 is ready for a Steering Wheel Remote, for integration with modern vehicles.

I have had the unit installed for about 2 weeks now. Over all it's great. This is my first of this type of head unit.
A bit tricky at first to navigate around, and I would say if you're not that "electronically inclined" then it will take a lot of reading of the manual. I'm one that likes to figure things out for myself.
The only issue I have that still needs to be addressed is the Blue Tooth. I can hear everyone fine, it dials fine, connects fine, but no one can hear me. I think the issue is with the mic itself.
The touch screen works great and seems pretty accurate in its response to where you touch. The "blackout screen" feature is awesome and a nice touch. All you do is bring your hand close like you're going to adjust the volume and it comes right back on. This is an adjustable feature.
The built in EQ is also a nice feature with customizable "user settings" for different types of music.
Going from Source to Source is very easy to change with either a touch of the button or touch the screen and choose from the Source menu.
I also have the JVC steering wheel control adaptor that is great. It allows me to use my factory installed head unit controls on my steering wheel for Volume, power, source, etc...
I also added the HD radio. So far it's pretty cool and I'm still finding stations that I like. The sound is amazing for radio.
I also have the iPhone cable so I can use the video feature on my iPhone. But this is not a necessity because the unit does come with a USB 2.0 cable interface and will control an iPod with no problem. I love this feature. I use to have my iPod hooked up via an aux input but this is so much better being able to tuck away the iPod in the glove box and be able to control the iPod and see what playing with the album art showing.

After some extensive research in double-din receivers for my 2001 Honda Civic Coupe, my final two choices came down to the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD and the JVC KW-AVX830. If you know who to buy from, you'll realize that both units are more or less the same price. However, the fact that the JVC unit had a detachable screen and came with the bluetooth adapter convinced me that it was the unit for me.

I've now had it for about a week and I am completely convinced that it is the best unit I've owned so far. Installation was easy and simple. The unit works perfectly and sounds great. I'll go over each component/feature that I have used.

USB Outlet:

This unit comes with a super convenient USB outlet in the back where you can connect your iPod, iPhone, USB Drive or External Hard Drive. You can simply plug in your white USB cable that came with your iPod and you have yourself an iPod adapter that will not only charge your iPod, iPod Touch or iPhone, but will also display Album Art on the screen along with all the tags. However, if you wish to see videos from your iPod, you will need to buy the KS-U30 iPod adapter separately.

Bluetooth:

The included bluetooth adapter in this unit is awesome. After setting up once, my iPhone automatically connects every time I am in the car. I mainly use this to play music through bluetooth but have used it to make some calls. The sound quality of the person calling is very good, however, I have gotten some complaints that they cannot hear me very well. I believe this is a problem with the microphone and not the bluetooth itself.

DVD/Video:

The video quality on this unit is great. Don't expect it to be HD or Blu Ray quality, but for a small unit that play's DVD's, it is very good.

Alright, so I looked around at many double din's and this is by far the best one you could get without gps.. I owned the jvc kw-avx820 and the new jvc kw-avx830 is way better!! The old 820 model is so bright and when driving, this 7 inch monitor is pretty distracting even when dimming it on the lowest setting. With the new 830, it has a blackout feature so after like 8 seconds or so the screen completely turns black and still plays music. You can set it to whichever you preffer so when I play movies I dont use the blackout feature. Highly recommend getting a square trade extended warrantee just in case something happens to your monitor, they wrote me a check and is how I just got the 830. Also I recommend buying a bypass so you can watch movies. The one thing I dont like is that this model doesnt come with a remote, you have to purchase it separately. The old 820 unit came with a remote. Best detachable monitor out!!!

I purchased this unit elsewhere and paid WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than I should have, but it's done and I do love it.

It does what it is supposed to. I installed the unit in a 2005 4 door Toyota Tacoma. Thanks to the Tacoma being ridiculously easy to tear down, it was a really simple install. It took maybe a couple hours to take out the stock head unit, put it in the scosche mounting unit I got to match the truck interior, connect up all the wires (all wires are well labeled and I also had a printout of what wires were what from my truck handy). In this time I also ran all wires for 2 amplifiers and installed two 10" JL subs and some bass shakers (and later replaced the PATHETIC Toyota door speakers).

It took me a little time to figure out how to get the face plate off smooth, but that feature is absolutely FANTASTIC. Being able to remove the face plate and have it look like there is no screen in there is such a great feeling of security. It's a pretty screen when it's on there, so NOT being able to see the screen when looking in is a great thing.

The functionality is quite good. I love the proximity sensor. The screen is large and bright, and having it turn off at night and easily swipe your hand by it to turn it back on is just great. The only time it can be kind of a pain is when my dog starts snooping his nose by the screen and it turns it on, but that is basically a non issue. Just kind of funny when it happens.

The ipod control I find to be quite great. I keep my ipod touch (or recently my ipad works great too) tucked away and can find songs and go through playlists just fine after a little learning curve. I would love if it was faster response, but you won't ever find a car stereo that will control as smooth as the actual ipod.
