ok.. i have been waiting for this Kaboom to finally make it to the states.. i received mine today.. some things to mention.. this is a 40 watt kaboom.. not the 52 watt older kaboom.. the side firing subs are also smaller.. if you love the deep deep bass of prior Kaboom models.. dont buy this one.. if you like moderate "in your face" mid/bass.. then this Kaboom is for you.. it's almost the same size as older kabooms.. and has a managable wieght.. so carrying it around wont break your back.. item is "MADE IN CHINA" unlike older kabooms that were solidly biult in Malaysia.. and it shows.. cheaper plastics and parts were used in this Kaboom..

item lacks the durable shoulder strap/remote holder from previous Kabooms.. it's now a funky strap/plastic lachy thingy.. it also does not come with batteries for the remote.. a sign of cheapness.. is it worth $300? nope.. $150-$180 perhaps.. IPOD intergration is simple at best.. it does simple functions.. but it's not fully intergrated.. but the main reason i bought it is that it protects the IPOD from damage.. this it does well.. i did not try the USB input.. but i'm sure it works as intended..

bottom line.. if you want the BASS that Kabooms were known for.. this will not fill that void.. stick with the older units

but if you want a nice compact carry anywhere self contained boombox for your IPOD this will do fine.. it does get plenty loud..

sign of the times.. the day of quality electronics is no more..

Bought this unit and found out it is only compatabile with very limited (5) Apple IPod models and limited generations. This information is written on the instuction sheet INSIDE the box. The customer service person at JVC suggested the only solution was for me to purchase an older model IPod???!!?? REALLY??? We tried at least 6 different models of IPod and couldn't get any of them to read. Poor attitude on the customer service rep combined with the problem makes it a poor choice for anyone.

I have owned the JVC RV-NB 10 Kaboom and now I own the JVC RV-NB 50 Kaboom. The new RV-Nb 50 Kaboom is a well designed, innovative and powerful boombox worthy of the kaboom name. This is not a second rate stereo system when put against its older peers, and in fact, rises above them in many ways. First, the sound quality is exceptional, the volume levels are amazing and the bass on this system is just as pounding as the RV-NB 10 was. This system is not cheaply manufactured. The overall feel of the unit is both durable and very strong. It doesn't weigh as much as the older Kaboom models, but it is still a little much to tote around everywhere. The dimensions are just a bit smaller and I know that for certain because this unit is sitting on the very same table top as the kaboom I had there before. If you are on the fence about this model-jump off and buy it. It plays Ipod, MP3 CD, USB media and does so with ease and sophistication. Also, this unit charges Ipods very rapidly. I was impressed. This unit is undeserving of the negative posts about it being inferior in quality to its predecessors-this is just not the case. I have owned two Kabooms now and hands down, this is the best of them. Get to boomin'!

Arrived quickly and as advertised. Produces deep bass, but FLAT high's. When listening outdoors this isn't much of an issue, as you don't notice it as much, but play it indoors and you'll long for an extra tweeter or two. At the beach I had more than a few people stop and inquire about the Kaboom. This radio does not have an AUX port - darn shame. You can work around this by getting an iPod to 3.5 cable though.

Pricey for a beach / barbecue radio, but the batteries have last longer than I expected and the sound ouput is impressive.

I purchased the new version of the kaboom boom box locally thinking it would be of the same quality. I was wrong. I will say they have made it ipod compatible to a degree and it can play mp3's off of a usb drive. The bad is they redesigned the way the bass drivers vent and made them smaller. They use to vent out through tuned ports on the back of each side of the box, now though they vent through the front. The old kaboom consumed 50 watts according to its UL label which means it had a stronger amp. The volume on the old model also went up to 50 and only sounded bad when you got close to that even with bass music. The new kaboom only consumes 28 watts so you know they are lying about its capability right out of the gate and the volume only goes up to 30 and sounds bad with moderate bass close to its limits. I own the original so I can make a far comparison. I will say this will maybe impress people who have nothing to compare it to. I wanted to upgrade for the purpose of the ipod and usb drive. I think JVC is ripping people off with this boombox.

I did a lot of research to find a Boombox that would kick out great sound yet is transportable. My wife has a show choir and they perform at venues that generally don't have a PA system to play music. The Kaboom is a perfect match for these situations. Excellent quality sound without the distortion at the higer volumes.

The only flaw to keep me from giving it a "5 star" rating is that there is no "line-in". My wife also works as a musical director for a theater company and wants to use a Mac to play music tracks during rehearsals. The Mac's volume is too low for a room full of people to hear, so having the ability to output the Mac into the Kaboom would have been the ultimate matchup.

In spite of that....the Kaboom is a valuable piece of equipment and it's getting lots of use. When other people see it, they have all commented that they could use one themselves.
