I have just recently begun using this tv even though I have had it almost a month so my comments will not be extensive regarding all aspects of the set. At this point, I am very pleased with the cabinet design, the ease of set-up which took only a couple of minutes, and the picture quality which exceeds that of another set which I purchased earlier this year from Toshiba. I have a limited cable line-up in my house but this tv has allowed me to access other cable channels which I do not receive on either of the two other sets in the house. JVC's picture is much sharper and the search time from one channel to the next is less than on the Toshiba. Since this is a 19 inch set, and the speakers are relatively small, I would say that the sound quality is average for sets of this size. DVDs play effortlessly and the sets menus are easy to navigate. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Bought this for my mother who wanted something new to replace her ancient(25 years) but reliable 12-inch Mitsubishi TV in her bedroom. She wanted a larger screen but it had to fit unobtrusively on top of her dresser drawer. She also wanted, if possible, a small DVD player to perhaps place under the TV panel to watch her fave movies at night. Oh yeah, the unit also had to remotely turn off after a specified amount of time in case she fell asleep while watching. I knew there were sets out there that had DVD players built in, but was under the impression they were all big-screen TVs. This JVC fit the bill quite nicely. And we both loved the picture quality and small foot print. "Now all I need is my CD player up here and I'm set", she remarked. I told her, "Mom, almost all DVD players made nowadays WILL also play audio CDs". She's lovin' it.

I am happy with the television, the picture quality is very good, the dvd player does a great job with my standard dvd's; the only two things i didn't like: the remote doesn't seem like it can be programmed to operate my cable box, so i have to use two remotes, and the dvd player is not compatible with picture discs, jpeg pictures, dvd-audio... i am used to a 'oppo' brand dvd player, that plays (very well!) any disc, any format, picture/music/jpeg/pal. But overall, i'm happy with the device, and the price on amazon was great.

UPDATE 2: I am not sure what is happening, but there are medium sized streaks starting from the left side, top of my screen and ending almost in the center (there are about 3 of them) that looks like the lines you see in the sky when an airplane goes by. I hope it's not an indication that the screen will crack or something. I've only had the TV for about 2 weeks.
UPDATE 1: I have to put the TV's screen mode on Wide Screen to see the network's logo at the bottom. INITIAL REVIEW: I like JVC brand in general, which is the reason I chose this TV. The only thing that bothers me is the screen modes. I am using Cinema screen mode because the other modes show black lines vertically and/or horizontally, BUT....text is not viewable from the top and bottom of the screens. For instance, the network logo is usually on the bottom right of the TV, but some of it is cut off from the bottom. I was watching HGTV and there were two lines of text at the top of the screen, but I could only see the second line. I am hoping there is a way to fix this. I am giving 4 stars because I have not read the book it came with yet to see if there is a way to fix these little annoyances. Good thing I am not a big TV watcher or I would be annoyed by these little things.
