The system holds up to three CD in its rotating carousel and is compatible with CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats. However, it also records music on its dual cassette deck with full-logic controls, and also plays the radio on its AM/FM tuner with 45 total presets (30 FM and 15 AM). The cassette deck includes CD synchro recording, which synchronizes the cassette deck and CD player to ensure that recording starts at the exact same moment as playback, along with the convenience of play exchange, which ensures that the current CD continues playing even while the listener adds new ones to the carousel. Other user favorites include a programmable wakeup and sleep timer; a demo mode; Compu play; continuous, random, and repeat play for one or all three discs; and a rotary encoder volume control. Signal transfer is coordinated by the 1-bit dual DAC.
The system is designed as a standalone unit, though it does include a front auxiliary input and a headphone jack.

This review is from: JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel (Electronics)
For us old-timers who grew up on vinyl, the advent of the CD proved a drastic difference at least until JVC's GB5. The GB5 offers crisp and clear sound on all ends of the spectrum. Easy to use features allow you to adjust your preferences with the simple click of a switch. From pop to rock to classical this unit handles it all sweetly with a deep rich bass and crystal clear tones on the higher registers. Whether I'm listening to Nine Inch Nails or Billie Holiday the sound is unrivaled by even higher priced units. Highly recommended if you truly love music

A Kid's Review
This review is from: JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel (Electronics)
I bought my product in May of 2005 (New In Box), Has been used for the Garage/Workshop with no climate control comforts. The unit has worked flawlessley in extreme outdoors "AIR Temperature" changes,CD,Cassette,Tuner, speakers no problems. The 5 Surround Sound modes with the Bass Reflex Subwoofer which is adjustable and easy to use. The Unit also comes with a Remote Control. The(Function Buttons) are easy to read Via Lights on the "unit" itself. for various modes,CD,Cassette,Tuner, Aux ,Or the Digital Display readout,For the clock , Cd Track, Tuner mode, Subwoofer level, Ect,Ect. The Digital FM tuner has a (Stereo/Mono Button) on the remote for distant FM Radio Stations, Reduces Static Noise level by using Mono Feature. For being a "HAM RADIO OPERATOR" for many years, this is plus. The Unit Can be Manually controlled from the unit itself!! (Not Remote Dependent) like other Major brand Mini Systems were the Remote Control is Needed to operate all Functions such as the, Tuner,CD, cassette ECT,ECT,ECT. The DownFall to the unit is, The FM Tuner Is Prone to OVERLOAD on an outside antenna, even on the wire supplied for the FM antenna that fits into a lookalike "F" connector. If the FM station is weak enough the FAN on the back of unit used for cooling Causes noise interference to FM Tuner and AM side as well, making the radio station unlistenable. The Cheap speaker and Subwoofer wires supplied and built into the speakers are not rated to handle large current loads "To small of Wire" used!!! but does work good at Mid range Volume. If the Wires are not firmly fitted into the Speaker connections on the Unit itself, the Speakers will not work propperly due to wire size used (Braided Wire 18-22gauge used) you may have to Twist wire braid a few times (The metal wire itself) to make a good connection into Push Clips on the "unit" along with Blue subwoofer wire. This is a common construction practice that maunfacturers use as a cheap way saving a few bucks. Sad Part is, Any major brand of Mini System under $350 deploy this method of construction for speakers and tuner hook up. All in All, the sound is crisp clean and the added bass is good. No problems with the unit thus far.
