1.0 out of 5 stars Looks great on paper, Last only a few months
I purchased this to save on desktop space. Once I received the product my computer could not be hooked up with the usb, I had to use the aux jack. After about 4 months of use the product does not work anymore.

Ok, I got these speakers because I loved the little digital receiver and the tight bass sound, even though I already have a Creative I-itrigue L3800 computer speakers. First off, the built quality is great and sound quality is phenomenal for a sub/equal to $[...] speakers. The four cubes design is very modern, small and compact. The digital receiver you see in the picture is the same size as the speakers cube. The tiny subwoofer is one of the best out there.

Sound comparisons:
I am going to compare this to my older L-itrigue 3800 that is my standard for computer speakers. I am playing this off a Sound Blaster's Fatality sound card. The L-itrigue is much better overall for sound. It produced excellent high and mid range sound, but good bass. This NXPS1 produced excellent low (bass) and midrange, but only good high. The NXPS1 is a better choice for hip-hop, rap and drum and bass Jazz (Boney James), since the bass is a lot tighter and sounds fuller. I prefer vocal, trance/dance, classical jazz, rock and the I-itrigue is way better. You can hear the vocals (S. Brightman) for rock (Duran) and alternative (Bush, Travis) music much cleaner on the Creative, but kind of muggy on NXPS1. Other music like new age (Engima), trance/ techno (PVK), lounge (St. Germaine) music, and some jazz also perform much better on the I-itrigue with better high, so you get more ambient atmosphere: chiming. The I-trigue bass crack at higher (max) volume then the JVC. The JVC power output is similar to Creative, but seems get much louder, both are powerful enough for computer use.

Features:
JVC hands down is better or cooler, but there are some features that bugged me. First, this is designed for iPods, but only support 4th and 5th generation iPod, so my 3rd or 2nd generation iPod from 2004 will not work. This is also listed in the user manual. The USB audio on the back of the receiver produce a max. of 16bit 48000 Hz, which is a joke, the sound is so flat compare to my Sound blaster card max sound rate of 24bit 192000 Hz. This will produce a higher sound fidelity/range. So I have to run my cable from the sound card to the front panel of the AUX input. The USB memory card will read mp3 sound excellently, but doesn't read my napster's wma. The JVC receiver has more features then the Creative one, like the USB and IPod input, both have headphone and AUX input. JVC has play, pause, stop buttons and a digital track on the receiver that works for the USB memory, but doesn't affect my iPod at all, nor does the remote. Both have a mini remote that looks like they were manufacture from the same factory, but JVC has 2x the buttons on it. Also the JVC have a digital timer, sleep and timer, which only a few sub-100 speakers has.

I think the JVC is a great overall speaker for sound and features. Too bad the Creative I-itrigue 3800 sound is a little better, but most people can't really tell. I will keep both for now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, does what it says., May 6, 2007

This is a great little stereo system. It works well with my ipod and the sound can be very loud and clear. And its small enough that it can fit anywhere (except the subwoofer). Only downfall, is you can only choose the next song or previous song with the remote control on ipod setting. You cant change the artist, etc. You have to do that from your actual ipod. It did shut my ipod off completley once, I had to reset my ipod...I guess there are still some minor querks. But all in all it is a good product, worth the money spent.
I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for a small price, March 3, 2009
This review is from: JVC NXPS1 Audio System with iPod Connect (Electronics)
This little unit really packs a punch for its size. I picked one up for a steal on clearance at Sears for under $30. I must say it was money very well spent. The two small speakers combined with the sub woofer provide the perfect amount of sound for use in my living room. It's much smaller than the 10+ year old bookshelf system that it replaced. I have been able to play all of my iPods (Nano, 4th Gen, Classic, Touch) with no problem. My only peeve is having to physically go over to the iPod to select a new artist or play list. The preset EQ settings are average. I have found that it is best to my liking to just adjust the bass and treble to what I like. Overall I am very pleased with this system. For the sound I would expect to pay at least $80, but not the MSRP of $249.99. For that much you may as well buy a HTIB.

Pros:
Small Size
Great sound

Cons:
iPod controls are limited to PAUSE, NEXT, PREVIOUS.
iPod dock cable is short.
iPod "dock" is at a small angle.

5.0 out of 5 stars JVC NXPS1 Audio System, January 16, 2010

Great sound for the price. The size is just right for my use. Use it every day and am very pleased with the sound. The USB port solves all my space problems as I just rip all my songs to mp3 and store them on a thumb drive. This sytem is pretty basic but does allow you to have random selection of songs - a very nice feature. There is an adjustment for bass/treble and volume. A lot more features that I expected for the price. It also has an Ipod feature that I don't use. Apparently you can hook this up to your PC, have not tried that. The earphone jack is also a nice feature. There is a alarm wakeup function that I have never used but could be useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't support all IPods, March 29, 2008

In my opinion this is a very good product with three inconvenient issues: First it only supports IPods that are fourth generation and newer (not all IPods as claimed). While the third generation has the doc connector and fits the cable, it still doesn't connect. Second, the AUX port is on the front behind a door that must be opened to be used. It would be better if it was located on the back, or better yet on the back and front. The third thing I'd like to see is the ability to use the standard IPod doc, currently it only functions when my IPod is connected directly to the provided cable. All things considered, for the price, this is still a very good product and could be excellent with some minor fixes and a little truth in advertising.

I own this system for about two years now, and I love it!! The sound quality is amazing for such compact speakers, and definitely for the price! I love the Ipod port, I plug my IPhone in every night even if im not listening to music, I use it for charging. Would highly recommend the stylish, quality home sound system!

4.0 out of 5 stars really great system with very few flaws, December 28, 2010
This review is from: JVC NXPS1 Audio System with iPod Connect (Electronics)
I purchased three of these units from ebay, and all three of them were refurbished. I paid anywhere from $25-$50 for each of the three units. I am extremely pleased with the sound quality of them, and ease of use. The build quality is also excellent. You can play music from a thumb drive, but only if you set up a playlist on the thumb drive, which was annoying. I hook up my iPod touch and iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 to the units and they work great, with the added bonus that the unit charges the devices too. If I want to play music directly from my laptop or Samsung mp3 player I hook them up via an auxiliary cable. The one draw back is that it does not have an FM tuner. Something I get around one of three ways. 1) use an app on your apple device that plays music like Fusion or GIRL radio or Pandora, you can also get FM tuner apps. 2) use the laptop in the same manner 3) my Samsung media player has a built-in FM tuner. I've never had any problems with any of these units and for the prices I paid for them, they have been WELL worth the investment. Having owned them for more than a year, I can say now that I would have paid upwards of $150 for one.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, August 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC NXPS1 Audio System with iPod Connect (Electronics)
This is a pretty good shelf unit. it's TINY - kinda like 3 rubic cubes in a row.
the subwoffer makes the sound much better.
the L & R speakers are good sound quality, but not great.
the Ipod adapter is a little funky when you plug it in, it sort of fast forwards your song, and displays some interface message.
you start the song over and it's fine. otherwise it plays great.
good value for the money, good for a small room or kids, but if you want really good sound, or have a big area, you may want something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars my first audio update, December 19, 2008
This review is from: JVC NXPS1 Audio System with iPod Connect (Electronics)
Tis was my first audio system. I bought it for my laptop to view films, listen to music. The first impression is wow, such huge sound from such little speaker! The design is very attractive and takes little space!
By the way i bought it at Sears for 50 bucks! Only 50 bucks! Amazon shame on you!
Now i bought 5.1 onkyo receiver, elite pioneer central speaker and two infinity bookshelf speaker. So i am using this jvc system as add on to my new purchase! These little speakers are great for surround sound! The only thing subwoofer is non-powered, so i have to use jvc av box too to make my subwoofer alive! I plug wire from receiver to aux!
In general this cute receiver worth its money!
