Compact and affordable, the JVC RC-EX36S boombox is a great fit for tailgaters, camping trips, picnics, and a host of other activities. The device is outfitted with a stylish silver housing that holds a CD player, cassette deck, AM/FM tuner, and a pair of 3.56-inch full-range speakers. The chassis looks good and holds up durably to outdoor use, but also fits effortlessly indoors in a bedroom or office setting. Users will groove to the unit's wide range of compatible listening formats, which includes not only audiocassettes, CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, but also MP3 files stored on a CD-R. The RC-EX36S even displays the track and artist information of each MP3 by reading its ID3 tag. And should listeners want to enjoy a DJ's playlist or NPR program, they can turn to the digital AM/FM tuner, which includes 20 FM and 10 AM presets that make it easy to scan your favorite stations on the spot.

In addition to its sleek housing and broad compatibility, the boombox offers a number of essential CD functions, including 40-track programming, intro scan, random and repeat play, and CD synchro-start recording, which coordinates the first few seconds of CD playback with the cassette deck's record button. The system's solid audio performance stems not just from its quality speakers (with 2-watt-per-channel output), but also its 1-bit digital-to-analog converter, which ensures a crisp, clean signal, and add-ons such as a Hyper-Bass sound system and five preset equalizer patterns. I was looking for a boombox that could play mp3s and had a good radio. This boombox fit the bill. Mp3s play great, and the radio is nice! There is even a clock as a bonus. I would recomend this boombox to anyone!

I purchased this boombox for my husband for Christmas and have been really impressed with it. The sound quality is excellent; the unit is easy to transport; it plays CDs, MP3s, radio, and tape; and the designers really put a lot of thought into the design of this boombox. All the controls are situated so that they can easily be used from above the unit OR from a level with the unit. It's wonderful to be able to take the boombox outside and put it on the ground and still easily be able to see all the controls and use them. The remote is easy to use as well, however.

The only complaint my husband has is that the display for the boombox glows very brightly. We like to use the boombox to play music in our room at night, and the glow from the screen is so bright as to make it difficult to sleep. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn it down, either. And unfortunately, the sensor for the remote is located right next to the screen, so covering up the screen means you cannot use the remote. But other than that, we love this boombox.

I have been a fan of JVC boomboxes for many years,and have had good luck with them.So when I wanted to get a boombox with MP3 playback,I searched for a JVC.After using this boombox,I must say that I am somewhat disapointed.The sound quality is sub par for a JVC,and the radio reception isn't very good(I needed to switch the FM mode to mono to get acceptable reception).All in All,I wouldn't recommend this product.
