5.0 out of 5 stars versatile music machine
This boombox does what I wanted: I can copy CDs onto blank cassette tapes so that I can easily play them in my car (no cd player in my older car!). Also able to play from my large collection of aging tapes--hate to have all those goldie-oldies unavailable to me. The sound quality is good and all buttons user-friendly. I can also play CDs that I have created on it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I ordered this boombox based on the reviews listed here. It arrived in its original box that was all beat up and had two holes in it and only one side of the box was taped. I knew when I opened the box the CD player would be damaged, but was surprised it wasn't. Then I played a CD and was terribly disappointed in the quality of the sound. It has absolutely no bass. I...

Also able to play from my large collection of aging tapes--hate to have all those goldie-oldies unavailable to me. The sound quality is good and all buttons user-friendly. I can also play CDs that I have created on it without problems. The copy says it ships "from Amazon" but it arrived in a rather beat-up flimsy plain brown box. It was protected with air bags and was OK, but the packaging could have been a little stronger.

I compared it to another CD player I have and there was no comparison. The speakers just have no bass at all. After listening to the cd player for 5 minutes or so I had to turn it off, because I just couldn't stand the tinny noise. This is the first time I have returned anything to Amazon and the whole process went well.

5.0 out of 5 stars JVC for Office cant be beat, February 15, 2007

I replaced a Sony Portable in an office tower where I work on the 38th floor. The Sony's receptionw as so bad that it was difficult to hear anything.

I was pleasantly surprised to get this JVC in. The sound is remarkable. I listen to talk radio in the morning and can actually hear everything being said even at low volume levels.

Although the tuner and volume is analog the dialing and reception pick up makes you forget that almost immediately. The only fault I found is the AM / FM selection switch. It has 3 postitions and you would guess that since the top is AM the bottom would be FM, especially since it seems to line up better on the bottom selection, but alas it is the middle position that actually sets it to FM.

I would recommend this radio.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good, May 6, 2007

The unit I purchased was not as well made, nor sounded as good as the older unit I had. That one went to my son.Thinking I'd get the same sort of performance. I'ts ok, but not as nice as the old one. By the way they where both JVC, and the same "almost" model.....Around the same price.

This thing has the WORST bass sound I've ever heard. Just zero low end. It's also bigger than it looks. I would never buy this for a primary stereo, but if - like me - you just want something to play in the garage while you're dinking around, it's good enough. It is a nice looking design and it seems to be made fairly well. Good radio reception too. But really, THE BASS SUCKS - and I'm not even the type to usually notice things like that.

I don't know why I thought this boom box came with bass boost but it absolutely does not. Although the sound isn't bad, it would have been better with bass boost. Also the remote only controls the CD. You can't turn the box on and off or turn the volume up or down which I found to be disappointing. Had I not ordered the box through the mail I probably would have exchanged it for one that had bass boost but I didn't want to pay to ship it back. It's decent enough so I'll keep it.

This is a simple, no-frills boombox. The sound is fine for what it is. Think "car radio in a Ford Pinto", not "hi-fi sound system".

1.0 out of 5 stars JVC CD Radio Cassette Player, March 23, 2007
This review is from: JVC RC-EZ31 Portable Boombox with CD Player, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner (Electronics)
After a few hours of use the cassette deck tracking stopped working! Unfortunately this was the reason I purchased the item. I already have audio systems with CD players, record player, but no cassette player; this was a real disappointment.JVC RC-EZ31 Portable Boombox with CD Player, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner.

If you are looking for a rich dynamic sound, then you need to spend more money and look for something else. This boombox is the lightest unit that I have ever seen (for it's size), so that should help to explain the weak sound quality. The CD player locked up one time and had to be shut down and restarted a few times in order to get it to play. I purchased this unit for my mother-in-law so she could listen to bible CD's...I guess it's ok for that purpose though.

I would suggest a person look at the Sony ZS-X10 boombox instead...It has great sound quality and the price is right too.

This JVC is a very simple design and so is the remote control. The remote control should control the power on/off feature but it does not! It does not even control the volume or mute, it just controls the CD operation and that's it. Very disappointed with this so called remote. The sound is just okay, it does not have a bass, treble or even super bass option. This unit is the BARE BASICS, nothing more - nothing less...

It will be good for kids or for the job site...
