5.0 out of 5 stars I did the homework.....You just buy it!
Dollar for dollar, this unit can't be beat. I listened to the higher priced units as well as the lower priced ones. At $169.99 you can't get a better sound. I spend a lot of time on boats and beaches along North Carolina's coast and this box is the answer. Of course it's not indestructable but with a little common sense and carefull handling this box should serve...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good, but not perfect.
Don't be fooled by the other reviews if you are looking for supreme performance. If you are looking for a good portable boombox, then this is definately the best option. If you are searching for true sound, you are far from it here. While the bass is resonant, it is hardly consistent with the rest of the equalization, not to mention quite muddy. Don't use the ACS...

Dollar for dollar, this unit can't be beat. I listened to the higher priced units as well as the lower priced ones. At $169.99 you can't get a better sound. I spend a lot of time on boats and beaches along North Carolina's coast and this box is the answer. Of course it's not indestructable but with a little common sense and carefull handling this box should serve you many years. As for Amazon.com I've got nothing but good things to say. I actually drove 37 miles to the nearest JVC dealer and they couldn't even come within $25.00 of the price. Yea' I know...I spent money just driving that far but being new to computer shopping I just wanted to prove a few things to myself. Amazon.Com delivered in 5 days right to my front door and in a weatherproof jacket to boot! My credit card number seems to be safe as well as the personal info I supplied. No one has hasseled me or bombarded me with advertizements either. Bottom line to all this? Buy it and buy it thru Amazon.Com!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Unit, but lacking in a few areas., December 21, 1999
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
The JVC kaboom box sounds very nice, at least for the $$ I paid for it. My only crticism of the unit is that the FM Tuner could be a lot more sensitive (for those of us who live in remote areas), and the ACS feature makes the music sound noticeably blotchy (very annoying). Apart from these problems, as well as its bulky size (which may be impressive to some), the Kaboom box is an awesome unit. Definitely worth the money.

I work in construction and it is always LOUD, but even with ear protection on, power tools blazing, air compressors running at over 60 dB non-stop I can still hear this baby CRYSTAL CLEAR! And that's only at 3/4 volume!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best deal on Earth, January 22, 2000
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
Once again, amazon.com has proven itself. The entire order was excellent, including the weather proof packing, which ironically, worked out well, as it poured rain the day it was delivered. The boombox works wonderfully, and NOONE can beat amazon.coms' price. ENOUGH SAID!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
For Amazon's price, this is a good deal. I am satisfied with the performance of this stereo, and it looks cool (which is why I bought it). PROS: 52 watts (split between 4 amplifiers), the subs deliver deep, clear bass at all volume levels. Even turned up all the way there is little to no distortion. I liked the fact that the tape deck has full logic controls (although I don't regularly use cassettes). CD player is very good quality - plays all my scratched CDs and home made CD-R's that other players wont. The remote is convinent as well. It has a stereo mini jack AUX input that I am using for my computer. Games sound GREAT on this thing. CONS: The active clear sound feature is a joke - they should have just used a regular loudness feature instead. Unit has 4 preprogrammed sound modes - I would rather have independent bass and treble controls. Doesnt include batteries for remote control and memory backup. Only runs on 120V 60Hz U.S. power (a problem if you go overseas). Overall, though, a very good deal.

I parents bought a $300 AIWA stereo system before I bought this one. I must tell you, this stereo soundds better than a $300 stereo. Even after my parents spent an additional $200 for a subwoofer, I still think my stereo sounds better. The look of the stereo is also very cool. For $170, this is a wonderful stereo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, great buy!, December 10, 1999
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
I bought this for my 17 year old son, but I would now like to keep it for myself! Seriously, your on line reviews were so good good I had to see what all the rave was about, now I know. I called my husband into the room after I plugged it it in and we both could not believe our ears. I can't wait for our son to open this gift and try it out on Christmas day. I'm very pleased, worth the money and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars This has some phat bass sound., November 11, 1999

Why buy the RV-B99 for a large amount of money when you can buy the RV-B90 for cheaper. They are so similar that there is no point in buying the more expensive one. If you are into music and love phat bass sound then you need to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Love Music Buy This Stereo--It Sounds Great., July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
I have been a JVC fan for many years. JVC introduced the first portable stereo with amplified sub-wolfer in 1986 (Model PV-RV2J). Following in this tradition, the JVC RVB90 is a worthy successor. There is no consumer portable stereos that can match the JVC, in terms of sound quality. Yes, it's heavy and somewhat ugly---but I bought mine because function was more important than style. The unit comes with a full function IR remote giving you complete access to all controls. Additional remote control units are available from JVC for a nominal charge. In short, this is a great unit with fantastic sound. If you care about into how your music "SOUNDS" this is the stereo to buy. This model has come down in price too. When I purchased my unit the retail price was $299.99. At less than $200.00, purchasing this BoomBox is a no brainer. Buy it---you will not be sorry!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Bass and Highs; Low Midrange, December 6, 1999
By
This review is from: JVC RVB90 Urban Assault Kaboom (Green) (Electronics)
I gave this unit 4 stars because it is a reasonable value for the price (unlike the RV-B99BK). I modified the unit so I could play my bass through it while playing CDs. Due to the digital design, the modification was not trivial. Construction is mostly plastic, with a number of computer-style circuit boards connected with fragile ribbon cables. Not as rugged as I would expect. The CD and tape are not all that well protected against dust. The CD player is VERY sensitive to jarring; it will skip if you walk with it. Instead of a conventional crossover, they place steel weights on the woofers. Novel. The bass is strong enough for me to use as a bass amp when playing with several acoustic guitars. (Positive comments from listeners.) The electronics features (via remote) are impressive, and the FM tuner works well; AM is less impressive.
