4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value in a mid-grade receiver

3.0 out of 5 stars almost perfect
This is almost an ideal receiver. I have 2 problems with it. First, there are not enough video inputs. I had to plug my PS2 in through my VCR since the only video in are VCR and DVD. That knocks off one star. The other star goes because my display window slowly stopped working. At first I could tap it and the display would work again, but finally it just quit, and...

This review is from: JVC RX-6000VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This JVC A/V receiver delivers most of what it advertises and, for most home theater users, that is more than enough. The case is a bit bulky, but very sturdy. Front controls are easy to follow, and the remote is very user friendly.

The receiver is generous in the number of inputs allotted, so that a user can connect VCR/DVD/CD/Television/Tape smoothly, quickly and with little or no confusion. The 6000VBK also gives the user a choice of digital or analog input. All of the connections are both logically and conveniently placed, making set-up a relatively painfree process.

Up to six speakers can be connected, four front and two rear, plus a sub-woofer. At 100 watts per channel, that's enough power to knock the walls down with anything approaching a decent speaker. I run my system with 15-inch woofers, and the base response is so powerful that a sub-woofer in unnecessary.

There are two minor weaknesses in the 6000, and they are just that, minor. First, the instructions stress that trying to connect a graphic equalizer in-line with any other component will cause distortion in the sound, particular on the low end or at high volume. The receiver features bass-boost and adjustable bass and treble levels, in effect providing an internal low-end equalizer, so this becomes a non-issue. Second, although the JVC 6000VBK claims to automatically switch the required video feed signals on the attached television/monitor, I have been unable to make that feature function properly. However, since this is easily accomplished at the television itself, it has no adverse effect on the performance of the receiver or any attached components.

Overall, this receiver is an exceptional value, delivering top-end performance at a budget price. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable value, June 6, 2000

This review is from: JVC RX-6000VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This receiver is an amazing deal for the price... I purchased it for my new apartment in MD. My family owns a high-end receiver, and the JVC is much better in my opinion... it is really easy to use and interface, and serves an entire home audio/video theatre... The sound it produces with the digital connections is unbelievable, and if you can hook up multiple speakers to enjoy the amazing surround sound, it is well worth it... I have 2 floorstanding 350 WATT KLHs as well as 2 100 WATT Aiwas and a KLH sub... the power this system can produce with its 5 100 watt channels is amazing, and i never knew that my aiwa speakers(which I use as rear surround speakers) could ever sound this good. 4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Receiver - Expected Performance for the Price -, August 1, 2000

This review is from: JVC RX-6000VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This receiver is an excellent selection for someone looking to put together a starter home theater. Although not the most fancy player, it does everything a person who currently doesn't have a surround system needs - such as built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 decoding and a subwoofer line-level out.

It has two digital audio inputs; one optical and one co-axial. These are assignable so you don't have to worry if a device has only an optical or a co-axial output. The unit will also do video switching and has composite and s-video inputs and outputs (but you can't go from s-video in to composite out). Also, it has plently of power for any starter system: 100 Watts (peak) X 5 channels.

There are enough inputs for all of the goodies (CD, DVD, minidisc, tape, VCR.) The remote is basic and would could have been better if it was backlit and universal.

For this price, it is understandable that the audio quality is not the clearest, but most users will not even notice.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. This is a good receiver for those just entering the home theater market or for those who are casual listeners that don't need features that they will never use.

I would recommend perhaps going with the Kenwood VR-407 or the Pionner VSX-D409 which sell for about the same price.

Hope this helps.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Touch It, December 22, 2004

The center channel sound from this machine is plainly bad. And just try to get support!
It's off the market by now, but don't bother spending the money.

I ordered this receiver because of the price not necessarily because it was better than any of the others. However, this receiver has turned out to be wonderful. It's easy to set up and operate and the sound quality is exceptional. Would definitely make the same purchase again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent entry-level surround sound home system, February 7, 2001

This is a fantastic, entry level home theater system. I bought it for my parents last holiday (2000) with the JVC 5 disc CD changer, and when I connected the two with the little remote cable they provided, I was able to control both devices easily with one remote, and that was really neat. The manual is clear and easy to understand and read. The volume control is not "motorized" so when you adjust the volume from the remote, you can't see it move on the device itself. But this system is based on volume by number, not volume by position, so "30" for example, is just a relative position on the knob, not an fixed position. It's a large, heavy, stable unit, and the sound, which is what this is supposed to be all about, is great. Solid bass frequencies, included a bass expander, which proved too much for my parents' speaker system so we left it off. This device is very simple in appearance, use, and features, as mentioned its an entry level device and I give it 4 stars based on its position as an entry level system. A great price for the features, sound, and compatibility with other JVC products.

1.0 out of 5 stars unsatified with JVC products as follows:, September 28, 2000

This review is from: JVC RX-6000VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
To start with I first purchased a JVC Model XV-M555BK DVD player.

It seems that there are times that I must re-insert the DVD in order to get it to read...is this NORMAL???

I can't believe that there are that many DVD's that freeze a frame for 500 milliseconds or more on a scene change as this unit does.

[A friend of mine also bought a Model XV-M555BK DVD player and his locked in and would not release All three DVD's.]

Then I had to purchase a new receiver, one that has an optical digital input. SO.................

I purchased a JVC Model RX-6000VBK receiver...this unit will make the picture loose sync and roll whenever the scene changes. And if there is a lighting storm or some other similar type of scene changes, you guessed it. It rolls/looses sync.

Also the output for the center, left and right rear and subwoofer speakers must be all at the max (+10) in order to hear anything out of them...what's the problem. I still have this receiver and need it fixed.

I decided to get a better AV receiver the Model RX-8000VBK. It had more digital inputs, which I am sure I will need in the future. This one has great center, left and right rear and subwoofer outputs. Big difference from the 6000. Should there be?

BUT I do have a problem with this system...the remote seems to have a mind of it's own...It increases the volume up to the max on it's own. There seems not to be any real UP volume return system in the keypad for the Vol. UP button and a sneeze will trigger it. It was scary until I realized what was happening... Can I get a new remote to replace the defective one.

Since I had the JVC system and it has the AV COMPU LINK, I thought it would be nice to connect it to a JVC 27" Model AV-27150 Television along with the S-video input. I don't seem to see any difference from my SHARP 27" it replaced with just the composite video input while using the DVD player.

The JVC over the SHARP has a very bad receiver front-end.. I know that my lousy cable company has very bad control over the signal levels of their channels, but there are a lot more "snowy" channels with the JVC. Is this due to the dual tuner, I would think that engineering would have corrected for this with a preamp to compensate for any loss due to the separation of the RF being split between TWO tuners.

I have not even tried hooking up the new JVC S-Video VCR model HR-S3600U, afraid of what it may have wrong with it.
