Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Home theater performance at an affordable price. That's what the JVC RX-6040B offers. Although this is an entry-level home theater unit, it is no slouch when it comes to features or power. 100 watts x five channels deliver precise multichannel audio from all your audio and video components. Five distinct amplifier circuits offer optimal separation for each channel. A high-performance Motorola 24/48-bit digital signal processor delivers sound with incredible clarity and realism. A digital acoustics processor (DAP) offers seven multichannel preset sound fields and nine two-channel presets, so you can simulate a wide range of listening environments. If you only want to run two speakers with the RX-6040B, the "3D-Phonic" virtual surround sound feature simulates dramatic home theater sound with just two front speakers.

Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24, and Dolby Pro Logic II decoders are all embedded in the unit so you can experience your DVDs and other digital media the way they were meant be experienced. 5.1-channel analog audio inputs make the RX-6040B compatible with SACD or DVD-Audio players. A powered subwoofer preamp out lets you hook up a front mid channel if you so desire. The unit also supports component video switching on two component outputs and one input. There are two optical and one coaxial digital inputs. Three analog audio and two analog video (including S-video) inputs round out the RX-6040B's connection options.

An included multibrand A/V remote control operates other brands of cable set-top boxes, VCRs, TVs, DVD players and satellite receivers. And because video still hasn't killed the radio star, the RX-6040B features an AM/FM tuner with 15 AM and 30 FM station presets.

What's in the Box
RX-6040B A/V receiver, wireless remote control, two AA batteries, AM Loop antenna, FM wire antenna, user's manual.

pros:
various inputs and outputs
component switching
price
value? (I've only had it for a 3 months - no problems yet!)

cons:
sound (music) average
speaker calibration not that useful or easy to set up
no onscreen menu

excellent for starter HT in a small room.
I'm running 2 opticals in and 1 coaxial in and it picks up all the DTS and 5.1 signals from Cable Box and DVD...
