Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

JVC's RX-6500VBK Dolby Digital receiver is an audio-video receiver with a number of sophisticated features. The receiver provides 100 watts per channel and has an AM/FM tuner with a 30 FM/15 AM station memory.

Dolby Digital, with five full-range channels and a subwoofer channel, lets you enjoy the most spectacular theater sound at home when you are watching movies and broadcasts. DTS Digital Surround is a digital movie soundtrack format that delivers 5.1- channel audio like Dolby Digital. Using a low audio-data compression rate, it delivers natural and clear sound. Dolby Pro Logic produces the same multidirectional sound you experience in a movie theater. Featuring a five-mode digital acoustic processor, the JVC RX-6500VBK also delivers sound that reflects the dynamics of live performances. It takes just two front speakers to enjoy three-dimensional surround sound with 3D-Phonic Virtual Dolby. Dialogue is fixed on the TV screen as a virtual-sound source, while the surround components are synthesized by the digital signal processor, then mixed with the front signals and played back by the two front speakers.

Electronic bass and treble controls allow you to customize the sound to your liking. The JVC RX-6500VBK features optical digital output, which enhances the sound of DVDs, and has enough audio- video inputs and outputs to hook up a video game system, a second VCR, or a camcorder. S-video hookups are included for video game addicts. Four-way binding posts keep speaker wire in place, and the Compu Link feature lets you run your entire home theater system with the multibrand remote control. JVC offers a two- year warranty on parts and labor.

4.0 out of 5 stars good intro to home theater, December 21, 2000

I took my sony 545 back b/c of the constant speaker hiss and got this JVC instead. Just about the same receiver but no excessive speaker noise. Very easy to use and hook up. Plenty of input/outputs, good display, and good remote. Not as precise set up options as the sony, but still a lot to choose from. The only noticable problem i've had is the center speaker channel. It's too low. You can adjust each speaker level but it doesn't help much, and if you turn it all the way up, it distorts and sounds flat. This didn't happen with my 2 other receivers using the same center. Powerful enough to drive most anything in this midprice range. Sound isn't quite as full as it should be and bass is lacking a bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars It did it's job..., August 11, 2001

This review is from: JVC RX-6500VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
This was the first receiver I bought however my family owns 2 or 3 others. I can't say this one was bad at all, it had the features I wanted and for the price I don't think it can be beat. Except in one category, I not only enjoy home theater on through this amplifier but also ALOT of music and originally that is what I bought this receiver for. The bass is terrible for rap music, Bob Marley, pretty much everything. It wasn't my speakers because I hooked them up to another receiver and while the bass that I wanted wasn't there it was greatly improved. When I finally discovered that this particular receiver was not a musically oriented product I decided to get into Home Theater and did so with a reasonable amount of money and am very pleased with this receiver. I don't have a center channel speaker yet so I can't say whether or not the other review which stated that the volume was too low and when you turned it up it sounded flat... sorry.

2.0 out of 5 stars JVC has done better, January 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: JVC RX-6500VBK Dolby Digital/DTS Audio/Video Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this receiver with the intent of upgrading my home theater system and replaced my first JVC receiver model# RX-207 (it still works and sounds great), and I was under impressed. Since I have had previous experience with JVC, I already knew lower end JVC equipment tends to have good sound with the mid and high ranges but less desirable sound with the lower range, as was the case with this unit. I prefer to let a self-amplified sub do the work instead (both car and home stereo).

My biggest complaint was the center channel. No matter how much I adjusted the balance and sound, it sounded "boxy" and most dialogue was difficult to understand. Fortunately it blew out 2 months later and I replaced it with the JVC RX-8000V (I am much happier now). I give this unit 2 stars and the 8000 4 ½ stars.
