Surround sound on a tight budget,
This review is from: JVC SXXSW6000 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
This speaker system offers surround sound on a tight budget, with a powered subwoofer not seen in some budget systems.UPDATE: First, let's get this up front: you need a receiver/amplifier to use these - you can't use them on a PC. Also, to be clear about the rating - this is an attractive, compact system including cables, from an audio company, with a warranty, at a low price ($50). If that's what you need, it's above average for that price. It's easy to say these aren't great; if a reviewer wants to show how much they know about audio, suggest a better alternative. Finding something at this size and price isn't a slam dunk. Now, if someone can spend more on speakers, you should spend more and get a better system. Speakers are the place to spend your money, they really determine how a system sounds. For $100, you can do better. For $200, if you shop carefully and wait for a sale on good speakers, you can get very good sound. Or, if you have time to shop for used speakers, that's another approach. Either way, you might add 2 better speakers to use as front left and right, those are most important. The satellite speakers are not efficient, in terms of converting power into sound, so these will work better if you have power to spare or don't need them to be too loud. The well-cushioned box includes: - Five magnetically-shielded satellite speakers in high impact molded plastic. The back has a molded mounting hook and non-protruding clips for the speaker wires. - An 6.5" active (powered) subwoofer in a high density particle board cabinet - A set of cables - 20 gauge wire for the satellites, with 12' wires for the fronts, 8' wire for the center, and 30' wires for the surrounds; plus an RCA cable for the subwoofer. - Feet/pads for the subwoofer and the center channel The specifications for the satellite speakers are as follows: 2" x 3.5" shielded driver with coated cone 200-20khz frequency response 110 watts power rating 85db sensitivity 8 ohms nominal impedance 4.2" W x 4.4" H x 4.1" D The specifications for the subwoofer are: 6.5" woofer with polypropylene cone and rubber surround 20-200 Hz frequency response (200 hz crossover frequency) 100 watts amplifier output power 8" W x 12" H x 12.75" D Warranty is 2 years on parts and labor; you have to ship the speakers to a service center for warranty service. UPDATE 2: Sound & Vision magazine reviewed this in June 2008, saying, "There's no question that offering six functional speakers for $50 is an impressive feat. ... if you ask me to cite something better for $50 -- or even $100 -- I draw a blank. Indeed, it seems snobby to criticize this system; it's as easy a target as a McDonald's hamburger. But just as I wouldn't hesitate to spend $35 for a decent bottle of single-malt rather than $12 for a mass-market blended scotch, I'd rather spend $300 or so for a more competent surround-sound speaker system than $50 for the SXXSW6000." (More at soundandvisionmag.com) So like I said, if you have the money, spend more. If you don't, it's not bad.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JVC SXXSW6000 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
I don't know what some people expect for this price but I got exactly what I expected. Is this a great set of speakers? No it's not, and they don't cost $800 either. I got them for a teenager so he could hook them up to a stereo and have surround sound on the PS3 in his bedroom. These speakers are perfectly suited to that task and believe it or not, sound very good. I'll leave it to you audio fanatics to spend outrageous bucks on something as mundane as speakers. I'm going to save my money and spend it on more important things, like beer.

Great speakers for the money,
This review is from: JVC SXXSW6000 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
At the time I bought these Amazon was selling them for only $50. I've never had a 5.1 setup before, and JVC being a brand name I found the deal too good to pass up (I got a used JVC 5.1 receiver for a good price on ebay to go with it). Anyway, you get good, crisp treble from the speakers and nice round bass from the powered sub. I had the sub turned up to the max and there was no distortion or muddy sound. The only downside is that sometimes the plastic on the satellite speakers will vibrate and this vibration is audible. It doesn't happen too often though, and never happens on "busy" music such as techno. The powered sub is rated at 100 watts, and the speakers at 110 watts (I don't know if this is per channel or for all of them together). Visibly, these look nice and the box includes long, color coded speaker cables and rca cables as well. If you're looking for good sound at a budget price I wouldn't hesitate to get these.

Well I have listened to these speakers at length. They are good for gaming and non critical listening. The sound is warm and full.Hey At this price point you cant expect high end sound!! That will cost you thousands of dollars. The subwoofer emits an annoying buzz on some classical music and some acoustical music.I would suggest you listen to these speakers before purchasing. As a bonus you get precut speaker cables and a subwoofer cable+ Free Shipping!,which was the deal breaker for me.I am buying another as a gift.Again Dont Expect Too much And You Wont Be Disapointed!Thank You from Stewart L 02/09/07

At $50, are you kidding? Nice for the price.,
This review is from: JVC SXXSW6000 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
I bought these speakers last week because they fit the last of my Christmas gift money budget and the shipping that day was Super Saver free. The speakers shipped within a day and the box arrived two days later! Who needs Two Day Air or whatever with those kinds of results? Setting up the satellite speakers was easy (I had already seen the previous review about the Sub requiring a Sub output, which my JVC RX-618 VBK doesn't include, so for now I am continuing to use my AudioSource SW 10) and the system sounds great for what I paid. With the Sub, this is a 650 Watt capacity system (5 x 110 W Satellites and Center Speaker, 100 W for the powered Sub). For music, when not using the full surround mode, I have the front JVC speakers matched up with a set of Rectilinear 7 speakers, with which they provide ample balance for their side of the room. For someone who just wanted a decent, basic 5.1 Surround Sound system, this is has been a very satisfying purchase until I grow up and buy something in the hundreds or thousands of dollars range (I grew up in the '60's, and JVC has always been a good enough brand for me and my family). When I do that, this JVC system will become my wife and I's honeymoon suite surround system.

I think this highly affordable speaker system is quite good, especially this great price. It would have been a good set for double the price. Sure this is no audiophile system; but to get that kind of "pure" sound you'd have spent no less than $1,000. For most home theaters this 650-watt system is totally good enough. Remember: how you place the surround speakers often have a major impact on the sound quality.

Best Speaks You Can Get for the Money!,
This review is from: JVC SXXSW6000 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Electronics)
These speakers sound just as good as my friend's Sony system, but they were 1/6th the cost. The subwoofer has a pretty suprising output for its size, and the bass from it is tight and clean. Aesthetically, the speaks are also pleasing, and the fact that they came with such an awsome amount of wiring makes this deal even better! This customer is 100% satisfied!P.S. I received the speakers in less than 48 hours, even with the "Super Saver Shipping"!

The speakers are okay for the money, but the sound is not what I expected from a name like JVC.

When I saw these speakers listed for $50 plus free shipping. I didn't expect much. I figured I could use them in my bedroom to get surround sound for my tv for cheap. They are pretty much worth what I paid. Nothing great, but they do the job. Sound is just okay. The subwoofer rattles a lot, even not at high volume levels.
