For the first few days I was a little disappointed until I realized that the sub's wire had been disconnected! What a pleasant relief after I plugged it in! The system is quite adequate for a small - medium sized living room. The sub has plenty of bump and once you spend some time adjusting the volumes and distances of various speakers, it can really make watching a movie or listening to your iPod a pleasure. The OSD iPod option is nice as it charges your iPod as it plays and give you on-screen DJ capability...if only it had visualisations!

Bad points...still getting used to setting things up, and additional remote is a little annoying, but not a deal breaker since the system is a bargain. I would like a more user friendly setup option, or some more buttons / dials on the actual receiver instead of having to rely on the TV display to setup everything, but that may be old-fashioned of me.

Overall, plenty powerful, good customization options, and a clear sound. With some speaker stands, this is turning out to be a very good purchase!

This is an excellent system for the price I paid. The sound is great and it was relatively easy to put together.

I have had this system for just over a year and just received it back from repairs. Played the second movie last night after the repair and again the system completely stalled. So I'm ditching it. I'm disappointed in this JVC product. The quality of the system is not what I expected either. The sound isn't as rich and vibrant as expected.

I research every thing I buy. This unit was highly recommended by Comsumer Report Mag.. They were right,it's well worth your investment! The SOUND will BLOW YOU AWAY !!!

I had a RCA system before this one. It was fine until it blew one of my speakers. Before I bought this sound system, I check consumerreports. This one and a Sony brand were the two top picks. I picked this one because it was cheaper. The quality is excellent. It really changed my entertainment experience. I found myself watching the dusty dvds on my rack because the experience was so great. It makes a really big difference having surround sound to go with a HD tv. I turn the volume up without worrying about blowing speakers. I also use the speakers for my xbox360. That too is awesome!

This system surprised me, such clean sound, and volume to back it up. Great with movies and fantastic with my Ipod. Easy set up, simple system controls, my first JVC purchase ever, normally a Kenwood fan but saw no 5:1 systems made by the company. Extremely happy overall. Keeping this one for awhile!

I got the system 3 days ago. Ive been putting it through the test and it sounds great. The dvd playback it good. It played every divx movie I put in it. The Ipod function is great and the overall sound quality is great. And you cant beat the price for a system like this. Excellent job JVC.

TH-G40 recived as retirement gift from work. Over last year, "NO DISC" intermittent. About a month ago, NO DISC constant. Tried lens cleaning DVD - no help. Any other ideas. Was great initially. Now wondering if sending off for repairs is worthwhile or I should buy a new other brand. Ideas?

My husband and I love this surround sound and DVD system! We ordered two, one for our room one for the family room. The sound quality is great!! The only thing is we wish it held more than one DVD or CD.

I heard great things about this product but, I can only get 3 of the 5 speakers to work and the IPOD feature doesn't charge your ipod - only plays it so you still need to charge it with a plug, seperate clock radio or on the computer. I think this product falls short.
