Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

When you're ready to hit the road, take one of the top names in consumer audio along for the ride. JVC's XL-PG59 slim-design portable CD player is pocket-ready at less than an inch thick, and its hair-friendly backbanded headphones include an inline full-function remote control with built-in LCD, so there's no need to keep the unit out while you're listening. ASP-EX offers advanced, 45-second anti-shock protection for skip-free listening during most use. And, with the XL-PG59's aluminum top panel, the heat-resistant player is tough enough to handle almost any situation.

The player's Hyper Bass sound system dynamically enhances the range of the boosted frequencies through a feedback circuit calibrated to the output level. This results in superb bass response as well as sharp vocals. The circuit's Q circuitry minimizes the suppression and muffling of midrange frequencies while reproducing dynamic low-frequency sound.

Conveniences include a hold switch (which negates changes in state during use or transport, obviating listening interruptions and wasted batteries), auto power-off (with which the unit shuts down after a CD has ended), 20-track programming (so you can sequence songs in a desired order), shuffle play, repeat play, and intro scan (which plays a snippet of every track on a disc to help you familiarize yourself with a new CD or quickly hunt for a favorite song).

The unit derives about 20 hours of playback from conventional alkaline batteries, and it comes with an AC power adapter and money-saving rechargeable batteries.

What's in the Box
CD player, headphones, inline remote control, rechargeable batteries, AC power adapter, and a user's manual.

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't know...?, January 29, 2005
This review is from: JVC XL-PG59 Personal CD Player with LCD Headphone Remote (Electronics)
I bought one for my parents for Christmas. The first impression I got from it was pretty good. I liked it enough to go and buy one for myself. When i returned home with mine, I charged the batteries and they wouldn't charge! Returning to the store, i exchanged the unit for another of the same model. The CD player works pretty well at home, but I don't recommend it as a "Street Model" CD player. It's too tempermental and fragile. And because there's no LCD screen display on the CD player itself, you can't tell which track you're on unless you use the remote.

JVC isn't a Brand name I normally buy because i've bought only SONY electronics since 1990. Considering the amount of music i play at home, the CD player is more than adequate for my own personal home use. But...even though I'm + about this purchase, I feel negative too. That's why I only rated the CD player with 3 stars. Here's why:

Advantages:

- Device is excellent with Audio CDs

- Device can be used on any Home Audio System/Computer sound system

- Sleak design enables user to carry in coat/jogging suit pocket

- Remote control has bass control 1 & 2 (for moderate/super bass levels)

- Remote is convenient for skipping tracks while sitting/walking/commuting

- Lightweight & Durable. Works well in both hot/cold temperatures

- AC adaptor is practical (Small, lightweight and both prongs are same size for power source outlet)

- Backlit LCD screen on remote is convenient when use in car or walking outside at night

- Remote has handy clip on the underside, for clipping onto shirt, bag strap or coat

Disadvantages:

- Remote is the only access to Bass Boost funtion

- Device is NOT MP3 compatible (As Stated in Manual)

- Device has frequent problems with CD-R/RW playback

- Unit does NOT have a "Line-Out" jack

- Re-chargable Battery Playback is poor. Batteries only last 1 hour on full charge...if that!

- Batteries require 10 hours for a full charge and don't provide adequate playback

- Remote uses too much battery power, reducing battery life to nearly 30 minutes of playback

- Device is more practical when used without remote control

- CD player skips frequently while walking with it. Very tempermental when walking up a flight of stairs

- When plugged into wall, the wires tend to be in the way, tangling and snagging on everything

- Remote/headphone wires are too long when used at the same time

- Play/Stop/FFW/FRW buttons are too sensitive when the device is carried in pocket. Causes disc to stop/skip tracks

NOTE 1:

It says that the batteries will give you a playback of 20 hours. It's NOT true. My batteries only lasted not even a full 2 hours on a full charge. I don't know where they get that HORSE C**P from, but they're wrong! You will find yourself having to charge them lots and lots and lots!!!

NOTE 2:

Be sure to check if the batteries have charged! I tried charging mine in the CD player and I tried twice. Both times, the batteries did NOT charge! I exchanged my CD player for another of the same model. This one works without a flaw. It's the first time I've been stuck with a faulty CD player. That's why I went and exchanged mine for another brand-new one.

NOTE 3:

To charge the batteries, put them into CD player, then plug AC adaptor into CD player, then plug adaptor into wall. Batteries will have fully charged after 10 hours. It's always good to NOT overcharge the batteries, as it will weaken them!

NOTE 4:

The Batteries take about 10 hours to charge and you have to charge them BEFORE using the CD player. You can get approximately 300 charges out of the 2AA Nickel Cadmium 1.2 volt batteries on this machine.

You CAN plug a cable from the CD player's "Remote/Earphones" jack, into your Stereo's "Line-In", but I'm not sure if all stereos will give you full volume. For mine and my parents...it works fine.

Headphone sound is exceptionally good, producing clear, crisp sound and great bass! The "behind the ear" style is convenient and won't wreck your hairstyle. I never liked these phones until now! On the headphones, the wire only comes out of the left-side phone, rather than on both, forming a "Y" shape.

Having one single wire is better because it's less "Tangle" or "Snagging".

The "Anti-Shock" protection is excellent, but only when you're sitting down. Otherwise, it skips a lot. Mine skips repeatedly while walking at a slow pace. Especially when batteries are low.

It's a good idea to treat the CD player gently...and try not to drop it. It's way too fragile to withstand a fall!

That's about it!
