This recorder offers its own unique features for recording convenience. Because it combines a three-CD/CD-R/CD-RW player with a CD-R/RW recorder, you can assemble and edit tracks from up to three discs to make compilation albums of your own. The 4x CD-R and 2x CD-RW-to-CD-R/CD-RW recording speeds allows dubbing at four- or two-times' normal speed, depending on the format of the source disc. One-Disc and one-track synchro recording functions allow one-touch dubbing of an entire disc or a single track.
You can use the XLR5010BK as a simple mixing/recording console by mixing two signals (CD with line, line with mic, or mic with CD) and adjust individual levels independently. Also included are optical digital inputs and outputs, allowing for expanded connectivity.

The best I've found...,

This review is from: JVC XL-R5010BK CD Recorder (Electronics)
After quite a bit of research I went with Consumer reports recommendation and chose the Jvc xlr-5000 which records at 2x the normal speed. My brother and I were so impressed with this machine that he decided to get one as well... but he went for the newer xlr-5010 which records at 4x the normal speed. I really liked my 5000, but time constraints being what they are, I decided to go ahead and get the 5010 also. The are both fantastic machines, and I originally intended to sell my 5000 once I purchased the 5010, but I like them both so much I am probably going to keep them... and my brother made me promise if I do sell the 5000 that I sell it to him! Really, read the reviews about the Phillips and Pioneer cd recorders and you will see that they leave much to be desired; also my nephew bought two of the phillips machines only to have them both become defective in short order... their reviews bear this fact out... yet I have yet to find one bad review concerning any of the cd recorders made by Jvc. So, for what its worth, my opinion is that this one is simply the best!!!

I HAVE OWNED THIS UNIT FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IN THAT TIME I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS IN THE COPYING AREA.SOMETIMES IT WONT COPY PAST THE 4TH CUT.OTHER TIMES IF THE BLANK ISNT PLACED IN THE UNIT JUST SO,IT WILL REJECT THE DISC.OTHER RECORDINGS HAVE DOUBLE ENDINGS ON THE SONGS.NOT GOOD FOR OVER 500 DOLLARS.THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND THE UNIT IS NOT USER FRIENDLY.I WOULD THINK TWICE BEFOR SPENDING MONEY ON THIS UNIT.

Good machine for the money,

Overall, the JVC XL-R5010BK has proven to me to be a good tool to record CD's (about 50 thus far) which I have borrowed from friends or my local library...The JVC model is relatively easy to use if your recording an entire CD, but requires a little "baby-sitting" if you a putting together a compilation disc. Also, I recommend using Maxell blank CD's that have "CD-R music" stamped on them. Certain blank CD's (for instance, ones that are labelled "CD-R pro") will not record using this machine. If you are in the market for a CD recorder, I feel that currently this model is your best bet.
