Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

At less than three inches tall, this DVD-Audio-equipped JVC player is as sleek as it is powerful. The player offers high-resolution DVD-Audio capability with JVC's custom 1-bit P.E.M. D.D. digital-to-analog audio converter and premium-quality progressive-scan video (for use with a high-definition or HD-ready TV). Oh, yes--the unit also plays your MP3 music and JPEG image CDs.

DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity stereo and six-channel sound at 192k Hz/24-bit resolution and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. As an anti-piracy measure, the XV-SA600BK performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to a surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs. The unit also decodes standard Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound through those same analog outputs, while digital-audio outputs (one each coaxial and optical) provide the option of a direct digital connection to a receiver. For stereo-only setups, 3D-Phonic virtual surround sound simulates surround through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on a TV).

JVC's Digital Direct Progressive Scan Output, quantified as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. High-quality component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs assure compatibility with nearly any set. VFP (Video Fine Processor) provides seven-parameters picture adjustment, including gamma, brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and "Y delay." In addition to two factory presets (normal and cinema) there are two user-selectable memories. Other features include gold-plated analog outputs, digest (for visual access to desired title/chapter), a high-resolution GUI (graphical user interface), and 13-step zoom (from .125x to 1024x). The player comes with a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, user's manual, and a glow-in-the-dark multi-brand remote control.

5.0 out of 5 stars JVC XV-SA600 BK, January 8, 2003

This review is from: JVC XV-SA600BK DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
Bought this as a replacement to an ailling (full of bugs) xv-511bk as it started to show signs of failure. So far the 600 has played everything and anything I've thrown at it. JVC has added some nice features / upgrades to the software. A quick 5 second rewind and the resume feature are great. DVDA discs sound great, but you will need to make an analog connection with RCAs to enjoy the added clarity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance and lots of features, April 3, 2003
This review is from: JVC XV-SA600BK DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
I originally wanted a Panasonic RP-82 but they have been discontinued, so I was searching for the next best DVD player. This JVC has outstanding video performance thru my progressive scan output to my HDTV. Some handy features while watching DVD's include hitting "play" to skip back 10-seconds so you can hear that line you missed, and "Strobe", which displays 9 small pictures on the screen and goes through them in slow motion. I haven't found a good use for that feature yet, actually. Zoom, picture adjustment, and simulated 3D surround sound are other features.

I haven't tried any DVD-Audio yet, or VCDs, but I have used the MP3 function. The folders on the CD are displayed on the left half of the screen and the songs on the right side. Sound quality is good, although it lacks a random play option.

Overall, great value for the price! Also comes in silver (SA-602SL)

1.0 out of 5 stars I do not recommend purchasing this item., November 26, 2003

This review is from: JVC XV-SA600BK DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
I purchased this item from Amazon/J.R. Music last November 2002 when it cost $100 more than now. With minimal and careful use, the unit stopped working this September. Warranty was for parts and labor to six months and parts up to a year. Trusting the JVC name and my great relationship with Amazon, I had no hesitations in purchasing this item at full price. However, less than a year and it reads "no disc" when inserting the disc. After a tedious investigation on how to have the unit replaced or repaired I found out that I would have to mail it to the nearest JVC authorized service dealer ($25 minimum postage) who will charge $70.00 just to look at the unit, with labor on top of that to repair it, then pay return shipping. So it would cost probably more than I paid for it to repair it. The service rep told me that the unit was most likely defective.... oh well....take your chances on this one. It is now collecting dust in my entertainment center. Happy Holidays to one and all.
