Best Blu-Ray Player!!!,
This review is from: JVC XVBP11 Blu-ray Player (Electronics)
First, I bought a Memorex blu-ray player and had problems with it. It stopped for about a second every so often during a movie. And I found out it was only the dvds that had a problem playing on it, though it plays blu-ray fine. Then I tried 2 Samsung blu-ray players and they both had the same problem of freezing for a 1/2 second while playing regular dvds. But this player is excellent and it plays blu-rays perfectly as well as dvds. I have had it for a while now and never had any problems on it. I really like the menu on it also. It is the best I've had and I'm very pleased!

Excellent entry level Blu-Ray for the price,

There is a significant amount of mixed press on this player but I've had good luck with JVC in the past and decided to give the XVBP11 a try. I am not disappointed. The DVD upconvert is very good, comparable with my friend's Sony player. Where this unit really stands out is the audio. Using a digital coax cable out to connect to my receiver produces sound that impressed even my wife (who is still upset I spent money on a Blu-Ray player...) I did update the firmware based on some of the reviews I'd read. This process is very easy - you just download a file from JVC's website and install it using a USB flash drive plugged in to the front of the unit. Give this unit a good look when you are shopping for Blu-Ray players.

I bought this one for my mom and just hooked it up for her when I went to visit last week. The menu is pretty extensive, yet simple to use--tech-head or not. We tried photo disks, blue ray disks and regular DVD disks and they ALL worked flawlessly! The remote is much better from greater distances and less "crowded" (number/size of buttons) than my 1-year old DVD's remote. This product shows that you have no need to spend exorbitant amounts of money to get quality. I think that $150 or $160 with shipping was well worth the cost for the result.

I bought this because although I had a dvd player, I needed another player so opted to go ahead and foray into blu-ray. It looked like a good entry level player but what I got was nothing but trouble. It plays a disc once in a while and the ones that do play take multiple times of ejecting and unplugging and restarting just to get it to load. It is so bad that we don't even want to watch movies anymore because it is such a hassle and we don't even try to buy any movies anymore because you never know if you can watch them. What a waste of money. I want to buy another player but worried that if I buy another, it will be the same thing again. Why can't a blu-ray just play when I put it in the player, like dvds do. And yes, for those that are wondering...my player was updated with the proper updates from the JVC website and it still doesn't work right. Waste of time and money.

We purchased this unit with our new LG high def TV having many JVC devices in my home. At first I thought it was a great unit until I found problems playing some of the new released Blu-Rays. Back to the Future, Avatar and several others do not play even when the software is updated. I put it on our Sony system and they work fine. It seems the software isn't kept current enough for the newer disks! It is an OK system but there will be issues so if you get it cheap and have a second player, you're fine but if you are looking for a primary player, look elsewhere. My Sony 3-d system has been flawless and that is what I'll be replacing this with in the next month. I do not recommend this at all.

I don't mind bells and whistles, but generally I like my products to just one thing and do it well. I have a simple cell phone that I use to make calls. I have a bone-stock truck that I use to get around. So all the features over and above the ability to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs are not that important to me. In this case, though, I needed a little something extra.I was looking for a BD player that was also a region-free DVD player, and I thought I'd found it. Unfortunately, after bouncing around different sites looking for the best price, I ended up purchasing a Region 1 (USA) version--but I saved 70 bucks or so, so I considered it a wash. The player is perfectly adequate; after almost a year of every-other-day use (mostly to play Disney DVDs for my kid), I have no complaints. Start-up is reasonably quick, although some BD discs seem to take a long time to load (Inception in particular). The only problem I've found is that at about 1:43, the Toy Story 3 disc tends to freeze. (This happened with my in-laws' LG player and Avatar; I think maybe the players are just choking on the sheer amount of data.) I was never able to successfully perform a region mod using the USB port, but updating the firmware was painless. As another commenter mentioned, it's surprisingly small: it's the same width as my FIOS set-top box, half as high and about 2/3 as deep. When I stacked them to save some room, it practically disappeared. All in all, this player does what I want it to do: play discs. It's not a rousing endorsement, I know, but hey--it works and that's all I need it to do.

Lasted 7 months, now screen flashes black every few seconds over HDMI output. Probably not worth the hassle of dealing with JVC customer service. Player was always annoying since it doesn't save your place in discs you've already started. Another piece of electronics going to the dump.

I bought this JVC XVBP11 as a blu-ray player/cd audio player for my audio/video setup in my mancave. (basement) I have only watched maybe 10 movies and a probably 25 audio cd's on it. It has worked fine until today (about 7 months since I purchased it) Now, it has a subtle crackling (distortion) noise in the audio. Picture is fine. I know its the player because I have a 10 year old Panasonic DVD/CD audio player in my system also and it works fine. (I initally thought it might of been one of my 25 year old Onyko amps... but it wasn't...they built quality back in the day). As for the JVC XVBP11 blu-ray player, I only payed $70 (BRAND NEW @ hhgregg) for it so I didnt expect it to be the best but as little as I use it...I anticipated it would last at least 4-5 years. It didnt. It is junk. I also have a 10 year old Panasonic dvd player an almost three year old panasonic bvd 65 bluray player that words great! The old saying "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" is a good, time test saying and it applies to this JVC XVBP11 blu-ray player as well as any item at this price point. I will contact JVC to see if they will let me return it and pay for a better JVC bluray player. Spend a little more $$$ and get better quality. i will not make this mistake again. Luckily, I payed for with my AX so perhaps I will be getting it fixed for free (the labor warranty is only 3 months!) Again...don't buy it..the good ratings havent had theirs for very long...

do not buy this player,
This review is from: JVC XVBP11 Blu-ray Player (Electronics)
My story is like a similar story above. Bought for Father's Day for my husband and now only plays dvds. I am so frustrated and angry. Started to have trouble playing my Toy Story 3 blu-ray though it is in beautiful condition, absolutely no scratches. Once I would keep trying it 3 or 4 times and cleaning it in between, it would work. Today, all other blu-rays stopped working as well. It is high on a shelf, away from kids, elevated to allow air flow, only operated by adults and turned off between uses. No player could have been treated better. This is truly a defective player.

I bought this player in April and everything worked fine for a couple of months. Now in January it only plays dvds. Every once in awhile I get a blu ray to work. I've updated my firmware and that did nothing. I even opened it up to check for dust, but there was none. I will never buy from JVC again.
