Don't throw out your Region 2 PAL DVD's, buy this....,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After purchasing DVDs from Amazon.de, I I quickly learned that Region 2 PAL DVDs will not play on any US/Canada DVD player (which are all Region 1) to an American TV (NTSC). I purchased the modified Code Free JVC XV N412SL, which I received within 2 days of ordering. Opened box, connected it to my NTSC TV, plugged it in and it played perfectly with no distortion. The machine converted from the PAL coding to NTSC video output flawlessly. Also, German subtitles worked perfectly. My only initial hesitation was that I was purchasing thru Amazon.com's site thru a partner 'The Electric Company' (aka North Star Distributors,Inc) however, no concern, quick delivery.

Buyer Beware.,

If you're looking to buy a DVD player with an exceptionally clear picture and your TV isn't a JVC, stay well away from this product. After buying this DVD player, I read in the manual that says, "There are some progressive TV and High-Definition TV sets that are not fully compatible with the player, resulting in the unnatural picture when playing back a DVD VIDEO disc in the Progressive scanning mode."They aren't kidding. In fact, they probably aren't being very truthful about this, because I've tried this DVD player on 5 different HDTV sets from different companies including Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and my RCA - all produced the same results, with a poor quality picture rife with heavy compression, artifacting, and motion blurs. Switching over from 480p to 480i with the component inputs makes a minimal difference in terms of the artifacting, but the picture becomes so grainy that it makes watching DVDs impossible. The quality is worse than cable. I've read through the manual about 10 times, I've fidgeted with every menu and setting on the DVD player and the TV, but was unable to get a decent picture. I just tried a Sony DVD player which doesn't even have progressive scan, and using just s-video inputs, the picture quality is vastly superior.

I HOPE YOU GET WHAT THEY SELL, NOT WHAT I GOT,
I bought a REGION FREE, NTSC and PAL capable dvd player, as says here on thin web site, but what i got was a ZONE 1, NTSC only DVD player with exactly the same brand and model number as the one described on this website.... and needless to say.... it was absolutely useless for me.... i already have a zone 1 ntsc dvd, so what is the use of another..... oh, It plays DIVX movies and that's great, but it wasnt what i bought, and i have sent two comunications to customer service that havent been answered.Im an avid customer of amazon, and i buy very often..... i have loved the service until now.

NOT a region-free DVD player!,

This review is from: JVC XVN312SL Single-Disc DVD Player , Silver (Electronics)
Although a good DVD player, it is NOT a region-free (multi-zone) DVD player, despite technical descriptions posted on various seller internet sites (the official JVC website does not provide any useful technical information on which you can rely). I bought this player (XV N310B/312S) but figured out that it plays only DVDs with the following encoding: ALL, 1, 1-2, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4-5-6. It does not play DVDs that do not include code "1". When I asked JVC about the discrepancies between technical information provided by seller websites and the player's real technical configuration, I received the following e-mail reply on January 6, 2005: "The information you have seen on the internet is incorrect. All DVD Players manufactured by JVC-America can only play Region 1 or discs that are Multi-Region discs that include "1"." THE SOLUTION: If you plan to buy a DVD player, first ask the manufacturer directly about technical details (do NOT rely on any other websites).
