The steel band clamp should only be used in one type of application. That being where you are putting two SMOOTH surfaces together, like a garden hose or radiator hose. But with a DC application of a ribbed hose, the steel band clamp is NOT the preferred choice, use the wire clamp.

The steel band clamp will only strip and never be fully seated trying to compress and secure the wire rib to the smooth DC fitting. The steel banding and worm screw is not designed to do that task and provide the needed pressure to fully seat the ribbed hose. Whereas, the wire clamp will actually strattle the rib on both sides and create a perfect clamping fit.

I used both types of band clamps- steel band clamps and wire band clamps- with the ribbed hose in my dust collection system.The steel band clamps slipped more, were harder to control going on and didn't seat as well as the the wire band clamps

I am the proud owner of multiple 6" Band Hoes Clamps, and let me say, my life has improved dramatically since I purchased them. How you ask? Well that is quite a long story, and involves a leaky basement, downspouts in disrepair, an angry wife, and the deep sadness of being unable to make my downspouts keep the rain where it belongs: in the buried cistern that connects to the sewer.

I tried chicken wire. I tried duct tape. I tried copious amounts of swearing. Nothing seemed to fix the downspouts not matter how hard I tried. The seal connecting them to the gutters would always come loose and allow water to run right down our brick walls, into the ground, and then into my basement.

Then I found these Band Hose Clamps on Amazon. You see, none of the bix box hardware stores carry 6-inch. You can get 4-inch and smaller, but 6-inch is pretty darn hard to find! Using these combined with some rubber gaskets and silicon caulk I was able to make a seal that was both waterproof, and nice and tight. These clamps fit perfectly over the galvanized down spouts and clamped them in place very tightly. Now a month has passed without any dampness in the basement. My wife is happy. I am happy. This is the greatest clamp anyone could ever own. You must have a clamp like this in your collection!!! Buy this clamp ASAP or you will be sorry. Don't hesitate!!!!!!!
