Just Screws and a Bracket,

This is a clever assortment of screws, a few paper templates, and a couple brackets. The most useful part of the kit is the instructions. But seriously, once you see how to mount the microwave, you can buy a few screws and washers from Ace Hardware and mount it without the kit. If you're not handy, they go ahead and buy the kit. But then again, if you're not handy, you ought to hire someone to mount the microwave.

Before I bought this I read the reviews saying that it works just fine, but is about $10 worth of stuff, plus instructions. When I was looking it was $38 and I figured that it was worth that for the instructions and not guessing at what I need from the hardware store. Allow me to recap the instructions: drill holes in the bottom of the cabinet spaced correctly to the holes in the top of the microwave. Lift the microwave and use the 4 provided screws to attach it to the cabinet.
The kit gives you a useful template and some decent brackets that keep the screws from pulling through the bottom of the cabinet. The brackets are not something you could get in a hardware store, but they could easily be substituted for washers. As I rate this product I see that the price has dropped to $19. At that price I probably would have given it 4 stars. You will only use a few dollars worth of screws, but they send you different lengths so you are sure to have the right ones. If you are confident about your ability to properly space the screw holes in your cabinet and square them to the cabinet without a template, then just go buy 4 screws and 4 washers. Or for $19 you can be sure to get it right the first time.

Mounting "Kit" Misnomer,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GE JXA019K Undercabinet Microwave Mounting Kit (Kitchen)
I bought this mounting kit in early December, 2010 at a price of $55 from Dependable Resource via Amazon.com. When I saw that it was only a couple of metal plates, a few brackets and four bolts, I realized I had been ripped off. Although the "kit" enabled me to secure the new GE microwave under the cabinet, it was not worth $55!! I could have purchased these items separately at my local hardware store for $10. When I registered my complaint to Dependable Resource, they said that in the "spirit of the holidays" they would refund me $I0. It is now mid-January and I have yet to see a refund. I have made other purchases through Amazon.com and have been very pleased with the price, product and service. This is the first purchase that has disappointed me BIG TIME! My advice: steer clear of a few metal pieces masquerading as a "kit".

Probably worth no more than $10 - but good luck finding that price,

I've seen this kit selling for $60 from Sears and other appliance stores. The pricing is absurd. The kit consists of a handful of screws, a couple of brace plates, and patterns/directions for installing the kit on various models. NOT a value. But this supplier had the best price and it was delivered as promised on time.

I was about to buy this and then saw all the posts about how it's a $40 bag of brackets and screws. Like others, I wanted more description of what hardware is needed so that I could make a shopping list for the hardware and purchase it on my own. Here's a tip - go to the GE appliance website, enter the product number (JXA019K), and there you will find close up photos of all the hardware in the "kit". As an added bonus, you can download and print the installation instructions and the template for drilling the screw holes.

Selecting these microwave mount kits is a challenge. This kit wasn't a perfect match for my microwave. I was able to use some of the parts, but found the mounting plates from the microwave I removed were a closer match. The directions are not that clear either. Allocate an afternoon to completing this project. However, my microwave is now securely mounted under a cabinet, and that is why I bought this kit.

Method 1 is tempting.,
This review is from: GE JXA019K Undercabinet Microwave Mounting Kit (Kitchen)
I found it amusing that the instructions for this kit mentions two methods for "mounting" your microwave oven. The first method is to put it on the counter and plug it in! I wonder how many did just that after seeing the confusing array of brackets, screws and templates. My model (PEM31DM) wasn't listed in the kit documentation, but
the screws and main brackets or "straps" fit okay. |
