Born a writer, having lived as a writer, I never thought I could BE a writer. But then things happened and one day I was getting reviews like this one:
"[Death of heaven] ... has a Books of Blood vibe [referring of course to Clive Barker's seminal horror books], which really works well. It's in these tales that the author's writing ability shines. He demonstrates a lovely turn of phrase and some of the writing is almost poetic in its beauty." From Michael Brookes, Author & Reviewer
Since the start of the new Millennium plus ten years, I have been writing from my home, tucked away on some very pleasantly forested acreage, just across Puget Sound from Seattle. Which I am now selling in order to turn my attention more into my writings and film productions.
So far, I've survived a strange and wonderful life. Okay, to be honest it's not always so wonderful.
My childhood was pretty intense. Surviving ADHD and my parents I found through those trials and tribulations that it either sits on your head throughout your life, or raises you up on its shoulders. But it's your choice.
There was lots of tension in our home. I escaped by reading sci fi. Then discovered a darker world through HP Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Edgar Allen Poe and others of that type. Probably had something to do with keeping me sane. Those writers gave me the escape I needed to survive. Along with music. All kinds. Heavy Metal as it developed, psychedelic, experimental, classical, electronic, all of it.
Later I discovered (along with the rest of the world) Stephen King and other usual suspects. Eventually I graduated (in my mind) to Clive Barker. I tended to move in cycles from being fascinated by Horror, then Science Fiction, then Fantasy, then Science Fact, finally cycling back around to Horror, SF and so on. I ran through that cycle over much of my lifetime.
Eventually I found that people liked my writings. I started trying to sell them. People started buying them. Now I have a a couple of books out, a bunch of ebooks, some audiobooks.
I was also trained at a University to write screenplays and so I write in that arena.
Do what you love to do.
Compromise only to stay alive, to continue your art.
In the end, it's a short life, live it well and leave an enduring legacy.
My original screenplays include a Horror/Comedy titled, "Gray and Lover: The Hearth Tales". A Semi-Finalist on Circus Road Films Screenplay Contest, it is the story of two Steampunk women. Demon Fighters named Gray and Lover. It is about a famous Horror writer and a murderously defective Demon and what "really" happened that fateful day Bin Laden died, May 2, 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Our demon hunters may very well have adventures in a sequel as they seem to be very popular among those who have read this screenplay. A sequel that dovetails with the sequel to my book, Death of heaven.
I can only ask people enjoy my works as much as I've enjoyed writing them.
