Review

There was lots of buzz about the movie as this movie was produced by ace Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan . very reputed for his acting and dedication towards his profession .I was very excited when the promos were out and straight away i decided that i m not gonna miss it .What a better chance for Imran Khan ( nephew of aamir ) for his debut in the industry ? and Genelia , a very famous actress in south india , has got a big chance to show her skills to the hindi audience as she has done only couple of movie before this and she is new comer in the bollywood --platform47.com

JAANE TU YA JAANE NA is a love story as well, but it's more of an Archie-Jughead-Veronica-Betty kind of a plot, set in the current milieu.jAANE TU YA JAANE NA works for a number of solid reasons and that's what the viewer carries home. A decent fare that takes you back to your adolescence, when friends seem to be the be-all and end-all.

Every member of the cast stands out, but the film belongs to Imran and Genelia. Imran has been presented as the boy-next-door and that works in his favor. He has screen presence and acts very well for a first timer. Most importantly, he looks the part. Genelia adds freshness to her scenes. What makes you take to Genelia is her spontaneity. Also, the mischievous look in her eyes conveys sorrow with equal ease. Wish to see more of her in Hindi movies! Manjari is a complete natural. She is very effective.

The group of friends Karan [as Rotlu], Alishka [as Bombs], Nirav [as Jiggy] and Sughanda [as Shaleen] are excellent. Each compliments the other well. Ratna Pathak Shah is highly competent. Jayant Kripalani and Anuradha Patel [as Genelia's parents] are sweet. Pratiek Babbar [as Genelia's brother] springs a pleasant surprise. He is flawless in an unconventional role. Ayaz Khan [as Genelia's fiancé] registers a strong impact. A good actor!

Rajat Kapoor and Kitu Gidwani [as Manjari's parents] are fair. Naseeruddin Shah is in terrific form. Paresh Rawal, again, is wonderful. On the whole, JAANE TU YA JAANE NA is a breezy entertainer which will be loved by its target audience the youth. --platform47.com

it has been a while since I sat through a film that made me smile, and at times even break into a hearty laughter. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, did both. The film, by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Abbas Tyrewala, is about love. Jaane Tu, in fact, is a very barebones film that you know the story of: Young people growing up, growing apart and growing in love. So we have Jai (Imran Khan) and Aditi (Genelia D Souza), who love each other, but lack the insight and maturity to accept it. And in the end of course, after twists and turns and many song and dance sequences with friends they find the courage to face up to the truth.

The film blends the slapstick with the subtle quite well and Abbas Tyrewala's debut directorial venture scores on that count. The strained relationship between Aditi and her brother is a case in point. If one moment you have them at loggerheads, screaming, kicking and fighting each other, you also have the brother leading his sister to his 'forbidden' studio-room for the very first time, just to give her some honest brotherly advice. There are also plenty of spoofs and not-so-subtle digs at masala films. The bottom line is, Jaane Tu is a nice, feel-good film --platform47.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a Good Movie. Love Imran and Genelia! December 24, 2008
Format:DVD
First of all, Genelia D'Souza (the female lead of Jaane Tu) is one of my favorite South Indian actresses. Not only is she gorgeous, but she posesses an amount of talent that is not often seen in Indian actresses. And she has without a doubt reached a new level of acting ability with this film. Second, Imran Khan (male lead) is probably the best looking guy I have seen all year. Since I've only seen him in Jaane Tu, I can't vouch for his acting ability - but for this movie, he is absolutely perfect. The two of them together work beautifully.
The music by AR Rahman is fantastic. The song Nazrein Milana does get old after a few hundred listens, but Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and Pappu Can't Dance are classics that I personally could listen to over and over again.
If you are a newcomer to Indian films, I definitely recommend this as a first watch. It is very relatable, well made, charming, and unlike most Indian films does not portray the female as a devoted (clingy) and dependant character; nor does it portray the male as a completely charmless guy who somehow gets the girl of his dreams; nor does it (and this is a big problem I have with Indian films) begin with a guy falling deeply in love with a girl after catching one glimpse of her (how unrealistic).
Rather, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na deals with two friends who truly don't believe they are "right" for eachother. It deals with friendship and family and yes, love - but with a minimum of cheeziness and a maximum of fun. Did I mention it's hilarious, too? And eccentric - in a good way. In short, Jaane Tu is a modern, well-paced, well-written charmer that I recommend to everyone - Bollywood fan or not.
