Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
...don't you just hate it when you get a product that exceeds all of your initial expectations, but then falls flat on a few critical things?

Well, that's happened here.

First, let me say that I really really like this little SPEAK 510 and won't be ditching it any time soon. The sound quality for music is way better than I was expecting. For calls, the sound is exactly what it was expecting. All the LED lights and little touches just launch this product into GOLDEN territory.
LEDs let you know if Bluetooth is on or connected. LEDs let you know if it's charging; and one tap on the battery icon lights up all the LEDs to let you know the charge level. Volume up or down lights up or turns off LEDs in a circle around the speaker. All functions work well and give you at least LED feedback; and sometimes it will give you audio responses as well.

For music output on the SPEAK 510: Bluetooth out of my iPhone and USB out from my MacBook Pro are comparable. The MacBook can push the speaker louder, but the quality is the same: awesome! But what I find really amusing is that if I connect my MacBook to the SPEAK 510 via Bluetooth, it turns the music into Hold Music... for calls and the sound quality. I cracked up!
Anyway, I hooked up the SPEAK to my MacBook via USB and fired up a movie. The sound quality is 300% better than the little built in speakers on my laptop. And there no comparison to open air sound out of my iPhone versus the SPEAK. The SPEAK cranks.

For calls, it works great as a speakerphone. Incoming calls are a breeze. You can answer, mute, and end calls with just a tap. Volume adjustments are similarly simple.

But where it falls flat...
You can't dial out using the SPEAK 510.

After reading the reviews on this product, I was excited about a capable smart phone speaker phone. After receiving the device, I was very impressed with the sleek style, controls, etc. It was very easy to connect to my iPhone 5. On my 1st call, the caller could not continue due to a horrible echo created by this device. Every call has this problem. After a few minutes, everything the caller says is echoed after a short delay making it impossible to hold a conversation. The only way were were able to use this device to hold a conversation was to use the mute button like a walkie-talkie, saying over so the caller would know the device was back on mute. (Note: this technique really does not work .. trying to figure out when to unmute the device to re-enter the conversation creates havoc for all of the callers). Trying to isolate the problem, we disable bluetooth to make sure it was not the phone or carrier, it was clear the issue is the device.

As a last gasp attempt to get it to work, I upgraded the firmware. This is a bit of a challenge as I am a Mac user without access to a PC. Since I just removed my windows VM (needed space), it took a few days to get the speakerphone near a PC. (Jabra - it would really be nice if you would create mac versions of your software). The firmware upload software is well designed making it very easy to perform this upgrade (aside from the lack of Mac support). Unfortunately, the firmware upgrade simply did not help.

I will confess that everyone what helped diagnose this issue are iPhone users. The reason I share this is it is possible that there is an incompatibility with the iPhone bluetooth software. Seems remote, but a possibility.

Also, we tried the speakerphone in quiet environments, noisy ones, two callers, 3+ callers.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
For me, its always been hit and miss with Jabra products. To be quite honest its been mostly miss. When given the opportunity to test drive the Jabra Speak 510 I had some serious reservations. After four weeks use, these are my thoughts.

The Jabra Speak 510 Speakerphone comes packaged with a nicely padded travel pouch and instruction booklet. This unit charges via the onboard USB cable. The USB cable is hardwired and easily stores in the wrap around base. The standard 3.5 mm jack port is located on the side of this system. The array of lights displayed and the voice instruction when performing a task with this unit is impressive. I like that feature more then I thought I would. Power, battery indicator, volume, mute, call answer, call reject, and bluetooth controls are literally at your fingertips. Even though you won't find it anywhere on the box or in the booklet, this product is covered by a one year limited warranty.

Connecting to both my computer and cell phone was a one and done evolution. Definitely not the headache that I had envisioned with my previous adventures with similar products. Users should keep in mind that only one device can be connected at a time. My Skype connection was crisp with no distortion until I went to my file cabinet six feet away. It was then that my friends noticed an extreme drop off in clarity. I and others picked up on the immediate improvement in overall quality when I connected my Galaxy 3.

If there is a negative its as with all Jabra products coming out of the gate, the company slaps on a high sticker price. The other thought is a minor one but it would be great if more then one device could simultaneously connect into this model. Still, I am very pleased with this Jabra plug and play product. Its compatible with all of my electronic gear. I like the portability too. The folks at Jabra got this one right.
