2.0 out of 5 stars Overhyped and undertested, March 22, 2005
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is one of those products where the anticipation is better than the ownership. The BT800 "Borg implant" seemed like a good headset based on the available on-line literature, but it doesn't measure up in practice.

Design: B-, an oversized, overly complicated device. Has *6* different buttons for the various functions, e.g. "answer" and "end call" are unnecessarily two different buttons. 2-line LCD screen with caller ID is great, though, and makes pairing and setup a snap. USB charging a plus.

Aesthetics: C, it's all function, no form, but not a total eyesore.

Build quality: D+, materials are cheap and construction is very flimsy; outer "jog wheel" can easily break off. Buttons are rubbery and lack tactile feedback.

Comfort: F, the most uncomfortable headset ever! The heavy weight and poor ear clip shape make this headset painful to wear. The overly-articulated ear clip and large size make for an impossibly floppy fit.

Compatibility: A, no problems pairing or using this headset. Full handsfree functionality is available, if difficult to learn and use. Caller ID works flawlessly.

Outbound sound quality: B-, callers can hear me OK, but onboard DSP can sometimes make the voice very "choppy" to the caller, especially in noisier environments. Noise cancellation is fair.

Inbound sound quality: C+, volume is barely adequate, likely due to the poor fitment of the device. Inbound voices are muddy. Minimal static, however.

This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
As a purchaser for a corporation I have used numerous different bluetooth headsets out there "testing" them for our executives or getting them back with complaints from executives. This is one of those headsets that "makes the cut" for our guys. The sound quality of the person you are speaking to is fantastic, you can understand every word they say. The features on it (particularly the dialing features with the headset and the caller id) are great. It feels comfortable on your ear (even though it weighs a little more than some out there)...everything about it is fantastic except the microphone and the range. Range on this headset is about 10 feet...after that you lose the signal. The microphone makes you sound very digital. People had trouble understanding me at times and none of my voice-dials worked with this headset.

Overall, it is a good headset regardless of the problems...but for pure functionality I would suggest the logitech freedom headset, it has a better microphone and speaker and far better range (up to 30-40 feet).

Purchased new in 2005, this headset worked fairly well for 11 months. After a factory software upgrade, the blue-tooth signal began to degrade. After a couple of weeks, the signal was so poor the headset had to be returned under warranty. The warranty turn-around time was 2 weeks. Jabra replaced the headset with a new one in March of 2006. The new headset seemed to lose the blue tooth signal every 10 or 15 calls, even with the cellphone right next to the headset. In July the display stopped working. I asked Jabra to replace the headset under warranty because I received the replacement only 4 months prior. They refused. 1 Week later, the headset stopped working completely. I would not recommend this product (or this company) based on their product line and service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jabra BT800...contrary to other comments I think it's fantastic., July 10, 2005
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Here's the deal, no bluetooth headset, and for that fact no headset is perfect. Now...with that in mind, let me give a little bit of background. I have had more headsets, cell phones, and other hands free devices in the past few years than most people will have in a lifetime. I have poor hearing due to numerous surgeries on my ears and have found that while I can headsets are great for me when I'm in a completely quiet environment. Having said all of that, I bought the BT800 about 3 weeks ago after reading numerous reviews from a plethora of sources and coming to the conclusion that the vast majority of the comparisons and reviews I read rated this headset as #1.

As stated I have had the headset for about 3 weeks. Getting to the functionality...it pairs with my phone and laptop with absolutely no problems/issues. My first few calls left me feeling as if the ear piece could fall off of my ear at any point in time, however after wearing it longer and longer and making hours of calls I have found that the headset is surprisingly sturdy. The inbound audio is remarkable, and when compared to nearly if not every other headset I've ever had, it's the best. The microphone is nearly "too good" and it took me numerous phone calls to finally figure out that the microphone is so sensitive that you have to position the headset so that the microphone is pointing sideways or even a little upward (not down towards your mouth).

Getting to the point I spend about 2 - 6 hours a day on my cell phone and would guesstimate that I spend about 3 - 5 of that while using my headset. The headset is comfortable, the audio is great, the microphone is loud, and the DSP works quite well. Bluetooth pairing is a breeze and it took me about 2 minutes (after charging) to set the headset up.

The only negatives I have had so far have been with regards to "voice signal." I use voice dialing often and have found that when using any means other than the headset my voice dialing software is about 85 - 90 % accurate. When using the headset my initial results were about 20 - 30% accuracy. As I have had the headset for a while I have found a few ways to improve this and would guess that my accuracy via the headset when making voice dialing is now probably around 75 - 85%. It's not perfect, but considering everything else it's really the least of my problems.

Overall I would highly recommend this product. I am enclosing a few links to various reviews that I have come across on the web. A few of these have very detailed information that you may find useful with this purchasing decision.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Headset; But Lacking a Few Things, April 24, 2005
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought and returned this. It was heavy and I could not wear it for a long time. The pairing process with my LG PM-325 was long and I had to call Jabra to get it completed. The caller ID is a great concept by not very functional since you can not look at it while you are wearing the head set. This is good for someone who does not talk for a long time and does not want to keep the headset on between calls. The "Noise-Cancelling" is not worth it.

I ended up buying a Jabra FreeSpeak 250 and I am much happier. It is great to wear all day.

This model works well with my blackberry. I am very busy and cannot take just any call at work. I am able to view calls with the caller ID, make important business calls without static, and it is comfortable. Must of all it is an excellent safety device while driving. Must BUY.

Too bulky and does not hang on your ear securely. Sales pitch said it has caller id, but all it has is a read out on the head set that can not be seen while wearing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headset.. I think others are being over critical.., October 26, 2005
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This headset is simply great.. Before i bought it , i had the bt200.. I am using it with the Sprint Audiovox PPC6600.. The headset vibrates when you receive a call and it also displays the caller ID.. Great feature so now I can leave my phone in my office and move around the office and still receive and answer calls.. The headset can dial phone numbers too but they have to be among the list of received or missed calls.. It is usually useful if you miss a call and you are trying to call the person back without touching the phone but not so useful otherwise.. The battery life is okay.. It feels comfortable to me and I have no complains about it being heavy like the other reviewers.. The headset comes with a little tiny belt case that I like so much.. I used the headset with a bluetooth adaptor and used it with the PC with SKYPE and yahoo messenger.. It works just great.. but I don't like having to pair it everytime I switch.. The voice quality is great... People can usually hear me clearly.. but if u start walking away from the headset, it will start breaking.. my phone is listed among the list of incompatible phones on the jabra site.. but i guarantee everyone who had the ppc6600, it works including every single function!

2.0 out of 5 stars BT800 - too heavy, poor fit, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased a BT800 when they were first released. I was especially excited about the noise cancellation that the DSP was supposed to provide - my last headset was one of the original Jabra bluetooth models (BT200 maybe?) and worked terribly in windy or noisy conditions. The BT800 was definitely a step up in terms of being able to use it in windy or noisy places.

However, the negatives far outweighed the positives:

1) terrible fit/bulky

This headset is huge and heavy. It fit horribly - mine eventually ended up breaking when I was demonstrating to a co-worker how badly it fit by gently shaking my head side to side, and it went flying. All the the "Features" that made it bulky were totally useless (why do I need an LCD on a headset that's almost as big as my phone? Maybe if I had a Blackberry or something that I kept in a man purse it would have been useful, but I never used it)

2) Volume was too low

When I was anywhere but a quiet office, I spent most of the time using it holding it pressed to my ear in an effort to hear. Sometimes I would just switch back to using my phone directly since I was using my hand anyways.

3) Bad ergonomics

The buttons were annoyingly placed and unresponsive. It was a pain to try to turn on the headset and then get it on my ear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jabra BT800 + Motorola V600, August 2, 2005
This review is from: Jabra UJBTH Jabra Bt800 Bluetooth headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Obviously what sets this BT headset aside from the rest is the LCD screen.

Pros:
1) LCD does work with my Moto V600. I get the callers number, but not the name which it corresponds to.
2) You can dial any number which is already stored in the headset (only numbers that have previously called you), without having to take out your phone.
3)I find the earpiece to be confortable on my ear. It's stiff enough to stay on your ear. Most other HS are too "flimsy" and doesn't stay on in the desired position

Cons:
1) Tactile feel of the buttons are "fair", they don't really feel responsive when you press them. The buttons also have a "slight" lag time from when you press to actual function. Lag time is a bit long for my liking
2) The headset with my phone, the headset will ring atleast twice before I can actually "pick up" the call. I don't know if this has to do with the "lag time" or if it's just with my phone
3) The HS is heavier then other models, but you have a LCD screen, what do you expect?

Comments:
1)I also have the Motorola HS810 BT. The nice feature about this is the Open/Close - On/Off boom mechinism. It's easiy to use. It makes it easy to connect/disconnect from a BT phone. With the BT800, you have to turn off then turn on if you want it to automatically reconnect. There is a lag time for turning on and off the BT800; takes 2-3 secs. to run off, then another 2-3 secs. to turn on, plus 1-2 secs. to connect to phone.
2) Can't really comment on battery life specifically, but i find it comparable to every other BT HS.

*Summary: 4/5 Stars. Nothing Perfect, but no other BT HS can offer the feature this on does. You can pickup and make calls without ever having to take out your phone.
