It says it's rated for salt, but, they just rust out internally after a few months. Rust builds up on the magnets inside and the ball bearings (upper and lower) seize up. I think they're good pumps, they're just not designed for saltwater, IMHO.

I kept buying these because I thought I had gotten a bum unit, and, the last time, I was in a hurry and no other pump had the same bolt pattern for the feet. I had a fishing trip planned in the morning and needed my livewell pump.

I've never had one of these pumps last longer than 6-9 months. And, usually, by that time I've taken it apart and cleaned/greased it because it stopped working.

i would NOT recommend this if you plan on using it in saltwater. For what its worth, on my boat, it's mounted high and dry in the transom, nowhere near the waterline.

The worst experience I had was when I tried to contact the mfg for support.. dont bother. Your best bet is getting it from a reputable place like West Marine and buying their warranty so you can just exchange it in the store. That's what I did the last time I bought it.

This is the second pump like this that I've owned. I bought this version because of the pressure switch that shuts the pump off when you shut off the water. Works just like it's supposed too.

I'm using this pump around my acreage for watering, spraying weeds, etc. I have a 55 gallon barrel on a cart that I can pull around. I fill the barrel with water and then use a standard 25' long garden hose on the discharge end of the pump. I can use it for watering trees that are too far to reach with hoses. I can also attach a standard hose end sprayer and spot spray weeds or use it for liquid fertilizer. Works like a charm. The trick is to ALWAYS fill the barrel with clean water. Using the hose end sprayer means that I can also use it for watering flowers, trees, new grass, etc. No risk of any residual left over herbicides in the tank.

Purchased this pump for use near Kep, Cambodia, at remote weekend homesite on steep hillside. Using to refill garden waterfall reservoir, cleaning, gardening and general utility. Needs are medium water pressure, lift, simplicity, and portability. The first one purchased works so well that now purchasing a second to have two.

I've been looking for a 12 volt pump that would do what this one does for years. I found this one by accident. I'm using it on a sprayer we use to control coqui frogs in Hawaii, and it shoots a stream just like what you get from the average garden hose! I use it on a spray rig I haul behind our yard tractor and power it with the tractor's battery. It handles the citric acid and the hydrated lime mixture just fine. A terrific product, well made and lives up to its specs.

After 6 months of usage this pump quit working. This pump is mounted in the bilge of my boat which gets wet/moisture with saltwater but not "in water"... and I have other equipment and pumps in there that have lasted 8+ years. In addition, the body of the pump is beginning to rust. OK... I did some trouble shooting and discovered the "+" lead inside the pressure switch (see blue cover from the product image)had corroded and broke. The cover for the switch was not sealed as well as it should have been and allowed moisture to enter. No dielectric grease was utilized for the connections and they were severely corroded. I corrected the problems by utilizing better connectors and silicone dielectric grease and returned the pump to service. I also notice the wire quality was poor... although it was tinned.

The pump performs well but should have never had this problem. The manufacturer should know this and in my opinion did not follow best practices at the time of assembly. If you buy one of these pumps be proactive about this area, (of the pump) prior to installation... especially if the installation is inside the bilge. If you have a boat you'll understand.

The original shurflow pump lasted 8 years.

3-13 update

Pressure switch failed. Tried to get a replacement, no luck. Trying to contact JABSCO to help out under warranty, so far nada. Motor still works but pressure switch gave up the goodie.

Bought as a replacement for Sureflo livewell/washdown system pump. Easy installation. I have only used in fresh water so far, so I do not have an opinion for salt water yet. Sureflo died a month after exposure to salt water.Has slightly more pressure now. This pump cycles on and off apparently to a restriction or plug per the troubleshooting chart. I'm going to try a larger hose in the Spring and see if that takes care of it. Came with everything but mounting screws, hose and clamps. Hopefully will last a long time. Sealed motor should help. After much searching Amazon had best price. Of course as sooon as I bought it Overtons had it on sale $40 cheaper.
