Smooth and sultry, June 11, 2008
This review is from: Jacintha Goes to Hollywood (Audio CD)
While blessed with a powerful voice that could blow the roof off, Jacintha instead chooses to sing in a restrained manner--much like Julie London or Peggy Lee. This can be disconcerting to some who, raised on the power ballad, equate volume with passion. Somehow the combination of the arrangement, her phrasing, and her diction make each song her own. That being said, this is not her best work. Perhaps it is because few of these songs are worthy of her gifts. Hollywood is rarely a source for quality music, and although Hollywood is known for using McGuffins in film, its use as a McGuffin was a poor choice. This remains a smooth and sultry album, suitable for long nights in front of the fire. Perhaps that was the point.
