A famliar tale modernized.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Jack and the Beanstalk (Hardcover)
Well, I've been telling my daughter and her friends about the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk for a while now...not really remembering how the tale goes and making things up as I went along. I saw a review in Newsweek that rated this particular version of the tale very highly. I purchased it and concur w/ Newsweek's review. It's a wonderful version of the classic story. My daughter loves it as well. We're starting a story time in our community and it's the first book I'm going to read to the kids...The modernized illustration gives the story life and keeps my 4 year old child interested until the next page. It's a great addition to your child's collection.

This is a witty and imaginative retelling of the classic story. We have owned this book for almost a year now, and among scores of other books, it continues to be the favorite among both my 1-1/2 year old and my 3 year old boys. It is exciting without being too frightening, and can be used as the basis for a lot of imaginative play.

The marriage of text to illustrations is a key part of the magic of this Jack tale. There is also a long-bearded narrator that's highly rated by my Kindergarten students. We read four Jack tales and this was their favorite--magical, not too scary, and the Giant's end has a variation from the classic ax/fall sequence.
The CD is a great bonus as well.

I found a measurement activity I wanted to do with my Kindergarten class that involved reading Jack and the Beanstalk. I went to the closest bookstore and they did not have the book. I have never bought anything from Amazon, so I was kind of nervous. I was surprised when the book came in within a couple of days. I figured it would atleast take a week! I opened up the book and the book looked NEW! I'm very happy and my kindergarten class loved it! I plan on buying many more books in the near future from this person.

I love Walker's modern retelling of the Jack tale, and I'm especially in love with Sharkey's bright, colorful, funky illustrations.

The strength of this book is the illustrations. Great style, I think, very nice colors and pictures. The writing is adequate. My 3 y.o. loves it. I am very happy with the purchase.

A Classic Tale Modernized,

This review is from: Jack and the Beanstalk (Hardcover)
Newsweek recently did an article on top picks of children's book. This one was one of them. We purchased it and I concur. My just turned 4 year old daugther loves the tale and sits close waiting for me to turn the page. The illustrations our lively and fun and keep the kids interested. This is a must for your child's book collection.

Would you ever want to face a giant ogre? That's what happens to Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk retold by Val Biro. Jack trades a cow for magic beans that end up growing into a beanstalk. I like this book because it is exciting. I like all the characters in the book, especially the giant. Jack plants the missing beans, see what grows!
