4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better DVDs in the series, September 1, 2008

This review is from: Jack Benny Show, Volume 5 (DVD)
Volume 5 of The Jack Benny Show is no different than the others in the series. There are four episodes on this DVD along with the exact same previews and catalogue that are featured on the other 4 DVDs. It is interesting to note that the Lucky Strike commercials have been cut from these episodes.

Episode One: Dorothy Shay Show. As one can guess from the title, Dorothy Shay is Jack's Guest. We are also treated to a song by Bob Crosby.

Episode Two: Goldie, Fields, and Glide: This was the name of Jack's vaudeville show, along with friends George Burns and Bing Crosby. They perform a song and dance number for us. This is a stellar episode as we get a great routine between Jack and Rochester. It ends with a surprise cameo from Bob Hope that will keep you rolling with laughter.

Episode Three: Lunch Counter Murder: This is a classic radio bit that works well on TV. Sometimes called "The Killers" on radio. Jack, an owner of a burger joint, is open late when in walks tough guy Dan Duryea along with his equally menacing sidekick Dennis Day! it is awesome to see Dennis Day in this episode and in the opening monologue Jack even has to deal with Dennis' mother!

Episode Four: Jack Rents His House: Most of this episode is Jack's monologue and telling the audience of personal appearances. The show consists of him and Rochester trying to leave for the airport. Jack is planning to be gone for a couple of months and has rented his house. Of course, Jack has turned off the gas and water, but left the electricity on since he is plugged into the street lamp down the street. We also find out that Jack is stocking his swimming pool with fish and charging admission.
