Lots and lots of sauces. Plenty of tips on cooking lots of different kinds of meat. I learned a ton from this book. It's great to have around just for the recipes!

With all the hype over this book, I was a bit disappointed. It was my understanding that all of the recipes had Jack Daniels in the recipes, but I didn't find that many recipes with Jack Daniels. Also, there were very few pictures of the food. Other than giving me a lot of recipes for sauces, it gave me a lot of barbequing ideas.

Pick this book up and crack it and the sweet and smoky bite of sour mash whiskey triggers on your tongue. The juicy soft mouthfuls of buttery tasting meats with piquant sauces that come back from fond memories gazing at the pictures alone make it a buy. I find it as hard to put this book down as to stop looking at as a car wreck.

The recipes are fantastic and hit the basics hard. So many Americans grill and barbecue and so few do it well, that a basic primer was needed. Mastery of these recipes builds skill that can be applied widely. I needed help with veau épaule once and resorted to the pork shoulder recipe for guidance and all went well.

This is it. Dont buy it and read it, buy it and try it. I hunger just thinking of it.

I love this item as well as all the Jack Daniels Cookbooks! I love all the stories that are included in the book! It is enjoyable reading even if you are not much of a reader. You kind of get caught up in the story. Recipes are from the good old days. Be prepared to say huh on some of the terminology though. I think it adds to the character of the book but I was reading the recipes and saying what is that. I found myself Googling some of the words and I am pretty hillbilly myself.

Of course, the book is going to promote Jack Daniel's - they funded the thing, they want to promote their product. But that doesn't detract from the charm of this book in the least. The author collects regional variations on everything from sauces to side dishes, and gives us a wonderful picture of the people and places they come from. It's well above the average "how to barbecue" cookbook.
