5.0 out of 5 stars 3 great early Nicholson classics in one great DVD!!!, March 6, 2004
By Jake Marsico (Flagstaff,AZ) - See all my reviews
Jack Nicholson and Roger Corman fans will be extremely proud to get Vintage Home Entertainment's "Jack Nicholson Cult Classics" Triple Feature DVD as it features three of his early film classics (two of which were directed by the legendary Roger Corman) such as THE TERROR (1963),LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1960),and HELL'S ANGELS ON WHEELS (1967).The print and sound quality of THE TERROR is absolutely outstanding which has been remastered from the original Technicolor print, compared to crummy VHS and DVD releases which are washed-out and faded,as this film never looked so much better than when audiences had seen it in 1963!!! How amazing is that!! Corman's other cult classic,THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS,also has great picture and sound quality, compared to other shoddy VHS and DVD versions which are mostly taken from poorly made 16mm dupes, and in its original, glorious black & white!! 1967's HELL'S ANGELS ON WHEELS however, didn't fair much better, although the print is grainy and worn-out,the sound is great but the dialogue is almost out-of-sync with the picture as the dialogue is about a second off.Nevertheless, this set contains all three films in their entirety AND it gives you two options on the main menu to watch the films separately or all together!!! I strongly recommend this DVD for any fan of these films and that these films have introduced Jack Nicholson to the entire world and has gone on to win three Oscars and become one of the biggest actors in Hollywood history!!! Ten cheers to Vintage for putting out a great DVD set of three great films starring Jack!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Classic Films featuring Jack's earliest film roles, February 11, 2004
By A Customer
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS: Seymour Krelborn is a bumbling assistant in a failing skidrow flower shop. That is, until he cultivates a man-eating plant that increases the store's business...and body count.
THE TERROR: Andre Duvalier is an officer for Napoleon who is rescued by a beautiful woman...who died 20 years before.
HELL'S ANGELS ON WHEELS: A young gas station attendant gets into trouble when he joins the "Hell's Angels" motorcycle gang and gets caught in a violent showdown with the gang's leader.

"You pays your money and you takes your chances" or so the old saying goes and no where is that more evident than with budget DVDs. Most of the time it's "you get what you pay for" but every now and then there are exceptions to the rule and this is one of them. I have searched high and low for a high quality print of THE TERROR, a favorite of mine since I saw it back in 1963, but since it's in the public domain the numerous VHS and DVD copies have ranged from bad to worse. My search is over, for the print in this low budget set is almost perfect. The creative and colorful use of lighting can now be seen in all its glory and all the dialogue can clearly be heard. Although not in the original widescreen ratio, it still looks astonishingly good. For those of you unfamiliar with its history, THE TERROR was cobbled together in a few weeks by 5 different directors including the 26 year old Jack Nicholson who has the starring role. Creative, low budget filmmaking at its best.

Also on this disc is the legendary 2 day wonder THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS from 1960. This story of a maneating plant would later become the basis of the Broadway musical and subsequent film. Jack has a small but memorable bit as a dental patient who prefers no anesthetic. The print is remarkably clean for such a low budget effort with the original soundtrack being quite acceptable. The same cannot be said of 1967's HELL'S ANGELS ON WHEELS. This early effort from director Richard Rush (THE STUNT MAN) has faded colors and a muffled soundtrack but remains quite watchable especially for those of you who remember drive-ins. It's a real rarity so it's good to have. All 3 films chart Jack's growth and development as an actor throughout the 1960s. Fans of Nicholson can't turn this set down especially for the price. For fans of Boris Karloff and THE TERROR like myself, our search is over until an official release comes our way which is highly unlikely in this economic climate.
