Hooray for good pinball!!!, September 8, 2000
When I first saw this game, I thought I'd buy it simply for the price, and the fact I like video pinball. Then, I tried it. The graphics are absolutely stunning! The angles you can use are perfect. The lights, the various switches, the dot matrix, and even the balls themselves are top-notch! VERY realistic. The sounds are excellent. The flippers, the sound of the ball bumping into the top-glass, (yes, like no other video pinball game, the ball will bounce up and hit the top-glass from time to time if you hit it right)and the trademark "crack" you hear when you get a replay! And the feel--well that speaks for itself. When the ball hits the bumpers, you feel it. When the ball gets knocked across the table, you feel it. And unlike most other video pinball games previous, this one lets YOU decide how high a score you need to get a replay, what high a score you need to rank, and how difficult it is to complete various objects of the game. (Though figuring it out can be a little complicated.) So, if you like pinball, (video or actual) you'll LOVE this game. A perfect 10 all the way!!!!!!

Big Race is the follow up to the Pro Pinball series titles : "The Web" and "TimeShock" ,which are available on PC. Thankfully Big Race USA and Fantastic Journey are now available for the PS. You get a full pinball simulation that rewards you if you know the table. Yes, there is strategy, not just simplistic physics and arcade modes. The physics handle like a real pinball machine and the flippers feel comfortable. There are a multitude of options, changing the table view, high scores, points awarded, etc... The graphics are good/acceptable for the aging PS. Oh yeah, its a blast to play to and for [the price], you can't go wrong. Highly recommended if you love pinball.

As close to real pinball as it's going to get, October 10, 2001
I've always loved pinball machines, but have always been disappointed in video pinball games that I have bought (both for the Playstation and the PC). They just don't capture the feel of a real pinball machine--sometimes they don't even try to be even remotely realistic. I saw this game for the low price and decided to give it a try. It is great! It's as close to real pinball as it gets and a real bargain for the price. However, if you don't like playing pinball machines at the arcade, you should probably pass on this game. All aspects of the game are great--the graphics, the surround sound, the realism and feel, and the actual gameplay. As with a pinball machine, if you just flip the flippers trying to hit anything in site, you're probably not going to do very well. There are specific targets to hit and specific times and sequences that you need to hit them in. Get familiar with the rules of the game, look for the lit targets, learn to nudge the play area, and you'll do much much better. Multiball is the best, but I did experience a little slowdown. I highly recommend this game to anybody who likes pinball.
