Shoddy manufacturing and damaged merchandise,

My chairs arrived in boxes that were damaged and partially open. One chair had a split seat support ( very important ) a completely broken front board just under the seat part, necessary hardware missing and scratched and stained. Not at all what I expected for this price even if they were on sale. Cannot send them back because when I opened the boxes they were taped in so many places no way I could fit them back into the same damaged boxes. Not the quality I expected either. Very thin particle board. When I got them assembled, I was almost afraid to sit in them. I guess they are okay if you use them inside and for looks only. Love to talk to the seller but the customer service # on my instructions has limited hours and a very long wait if you get through.
Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe I am just a sceptical consumer who should have already learned a lesson when it comes to e-mail ordering of hard line merchandise. SEE IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT is my new rule. UNHAPPY, DISAPPOINTED, AND SCREWED ONE-TIME CUSTOMER!

The chairs are, of course, made in China, by people deeply uninterested in the quality of their job. The packaging is super economy, nuts and bolts were spread across the box, some missing (another late evening run to Home Depot). Assembly instructions were good and easy to understand. Few screws on preassembled pieces broke off together with the surrounding wood, and had to be replaced with bigger screws and some epoxy. The wood is soft pine, and chips easily. The fit is below average, i.e. needs some banging with rubber mullet , the finish is super cheap, and the chairs will have to be repainted before the first rain. Also, the holes for the screws will attract moisture and rot; I covered them with white caulk and white "plastic wood". Also, the legs are exposed wood, and need to be put on some plastic or rubber footing or they will rot.
After all tinkering, the chairs seem solid, almost straight, and comfortable to sit in. I would pay more for higher quality and not made in China, but that is something hard to find nowadays. All in all, OK deal for $35 on sale - one of 3 stars is for the price - but definitely not worth the full price. |
