Revolt in The Bright Sunny South,
By Cara K. Joyce (Here Now) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jack Rose & The Black Twig Pickers (Vinyl)
There's a "Revolt" in the "Bright Sunny South" driving like a "Soft Steel Piston", and it will reach fruition "Some Happy Day". The revolt is against over-produced, over-refined-like-white-sugar country/pop music and in favor of hard driving energy chocked roots music and is being led by these young gentlemen. All the quote marks above surround song titles from this vinyl/CD/MP3 download ([...]) that will pump you out of pop and whirl you into a new world of deep honest sound. The technical perfection of acoustic guitar player Jack Rose, fiddler/banjoist/vocalist Mike Gangloff, guitarist/harp player Isak Howell and percussionist!/banjoist Nathan Bowles cannot be overstated. About half of these tunes are rockin and rowdy; the other half are bluesy and moving. All of them are fleshed out by complexity and delicacy and masculine power creating the feeling of standing with eyes closed beneath a sparkling cold waterfall on a sweaty hot day and nodding with the joy of needs well met.
