Editorial Reviews

Review

"...delightful pictures with sentimental captions that capture the personality of this breed..."--Plain Dealer

"...[the author] will win your hear with her marvelous little book...it's a treasure that will become a favorite with any all all recipients, dog lovers or not...what [the author] encapsulates in more than 50 color and black-and-white photos are absolute motion machines in action and delightfully somnolent beings in repose...this is one charming jewel that may require a double purchase-one for a gift and one for the giver to keep."--Sanford Herald

From the Back Cover

Beginning in the nineteenth century, when the hunting parson Reverend Jack Russell first bred the terrier that bears his name, these dogs have become great favorites of all species of creatures, from their owners and friends and neighbors to other canine breeds, cats, barnyard animals, and especially horses. Widely popular as both working and companion animals, Jack Russell Terriers can be found scampering around stables, dashing along riding trails, and at the rail of equestrian competitions of all varieties.
With more than fifty color and black-and-white photos of terriers in action and in repose—to the extent that these perpetual-motion machines are ever in repose!—and accompanied by evocative literary quotations, Jack Russell Terriers and Their Friends is the perfect companion for everyone whose life is touched by or entwined with these loveable creatures.

5.0 out of 5 stars JRs are wonderfully depicted!, December 30, 2004
This review is from: Jack Russell Terriers and Their Friends: Delightful Photographs (Hardcover)
No one can capture the spirit of a Jack Russell, in a photograph, like Marilyn Mackay-Smith. She pairs very appropriate (or humorous!) quotes with the amazing photos.
This is a wonderful book for any dog lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jack Russell Terriers and Their Friends, November 12, 2004

This review is from: Jack Russell Terriers and Their Friends: Delightful Photographs (Hardcover)
For anybody who loves the Jack Russell and can appreciate their terrier personality. I live in a multiple terrier home so seeing these pictures were like looking at my own funny dogs. I have tried to line up terriers for Christmas photos, but not with the success of Mrs. Mackay-Smith. Favorites have to be the JRTs at the piano, on the back of a blanketed, tinseled horse, and asleep (!!!) beneath Christmas stockings filled with dog biscuits. Mrs. Mackay-Smith, how did you manage that?! Thank you for publishing this delightful little book whose subjects remind me of my own beloved terriers.
