5.0 out of 5 stars Unlike Anyone Else Actually, November 12, 2004
This review is from: Jack Scott's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I disagree that Jack Scott sounded like any other singer of his time unless you can count the moody Leonard Cohen. I remember his consistent hits and found "Burning Bridges", "My True Love" and others to be much more substantial than the teenybopper favorites (Frankie Avalon, Fabian, etc). But I got the impression even at my tender years that Scott (born Giovanni Safone, Jr, in Canada) was like one of those coffeehouse artists who come out, perform their music and exit the stage without taking a bow. I have no memory of ever seeing his picture anywhere in the teen culture; it was if he were a "grown-up" and everybody else was a kid--it even made me a little uneasy to think that. But his records were popular (while they lasted), then music changed as it often does. Jack's best work, I believe, is right here. No need to lament; he made his mark. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hall of Famer, April 4, 2001

This is the perfect primer for those unfamiliar with Jack Scott. He wrote his own songs, had a killer band & a great backup vocal group in the Chantones. This disc even includes a rare cover, "Running Scared." Though no one touches Roy Orbison, Jack Scott pulls this off with a version every bit as good as the original in its own way. Every great rock pioneer but Jack has been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. The voters should be forced to listen to this CD for an education.

4.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS!! HE WAS UNDERRATED!, October 30, 2002

BACK IN THE 50'S AND 60'S ,, SEVERAL COUNTRY SINGERS MANAGED TO CROSS-OVER BECAUSE THEY HAD AN "ELVIS INFLUENCE".THESE INCLUDE CONWAY TWITTY ("BURNING BRIDGES"),TERRY STAFFORD ("SUSPICION"), JERRY WALLACE("IN THE MISTY MOONLIGHT") AND JACK SCOTT WAS ONE OF THEM. SOMEHOW JACK SCOTT INCORPORATED A LITTLE EXTRA TO THE BEAT.JUST LISTEN TO "GOODBYE BABY (BOP,BOP)" AND HIS EXTAORDINARY BALADS LIKE "MY TRUE LOVE". PERHAPS IF "CONWAY TWITTY" HADN'T SOUNDED SO MUCH LIKE JACK, THEN HE MIGHT HAVE REMAINED MORE WELL KNOWN. JACK WAS EXTREMELY TALENTED WRITING HIS OWN SONGS AND HAVING HIS OWN BAND.HE HAD GOOD LOOKS BUT MORE OF THE BAD BOY LOOK ,INSTEAD OF THE WELL POLISHED LOOK OF TEEN IDOLS OF THAT TIME.REMEMBER, THIS WAS THE TIME OF FABIAN, FRANKIE AVALON,BOBBY DARIN ETC.THESE GUYS WERE PHOTOGRAPHED WITH THEIR FEMALE COUNTERPARTS LIKE ANNETTE,SANDRA DEE ETC.(MOSTLY FOR PUBLICITY.)HE WAS MORE THE TYPE TO DATE THE LEAD SINGER OF THE "SHANGRILAS"! IN ANY CASE YOU'LL LOVE THIS SPECIAL C.D.FEATURING HIS ORIGINAL SOUND AND WANT TO PURCHASE ALL HIS MUSIC.

I have searched for this music for decades and finally my search is over. Jack can hold you for an entire concert and as for "MY TRUE LOVE" the song is devine, in fact we centered an entire wedding around that song. A most definate if you dig this type of artist. Thank You this is the best day of my life, "since crusin in the fifty's".

5.0 out of 5 stars This talent belongs in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!, November 8, 1999
By
This review is from: Jack Scott's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The songs on this album are an excellent example of this great, talented singer/songwriter's abilities. From the deep, strong "My True Love", the oft covered "The Way I Walk", to the light, uplifting "Apple Harvest Time," is it any wonder that this much overlooked talent is the only one ever to place 19 hits in 41 months on the Billboard Top 100! This CD album, with Jack's million sellers included, should be in every music lovers collection of oldies, love songs, and rockabilly. You will truly enjoy Jack's smooth strong voice as he performs the songs on this excellent CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greats!, August 14, 1999

This talented singer/songwriter is every bit as good as "Orbison,Elvis,Bill Hayley and Buddy Holly." Yet he never got the recognition he so richly deserved. Just listen to his rendition of "What in the World's come over you" or"My True Love"; Jack Scott put his heart and soul into his songs. The Oldies Stations have virtually ignored his music and I finally found his music at Amazon.com. Thanks Amazon!

When I heard this music, it transported me back to the 50's and reminded me of what really good music sounded like and you could understand what they were saying and what they meant. Thank you

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music for the B.B. (Before Beatles) fans!, June 17, 1998

This review is from: Jack Scott's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
You really have to be old enough to remember the late fifties style of cruising the boulevard to appreciate the full quality of this collection. Spontaneity such as you hear here, ("Midgie" , "Leroy")took a long vacation after the onset of the Beatles. Though returning in some recordings in the CM field it was and remains dormant in Rock. This arrangement and rendition of Roy Orbisons "Running Scared" needs to be used as a movie theme. It's haunting and moving to listen to. Get this one Boomers...you'll be delighted!

This is one of those albums that sneaks up on you and draws you in and just gets better and better as you listen to it from time to time. Jack's an original with a lot of range, from lyrical vocals to what sounds like rock and roll filtered through a handful of qualudes. Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars No One Else Sounds Like Jack Scott Anywhere and Any Place!, November 14, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very good, but very brief, album of what Jack has recorded which someone else has decided that were his best. There are many more that should have been included as well. There are not enough songs on it and the songs are too short. I guess they had to do that in the 50's and 60's to accommodate AM airplay. Mr. Scott never received the accolades and recognition like Elvis, Roy Orbison or Conway Twitty and he SHOULD have. The disk jockeys of that era played far too little of him and too much of the Philadelphia pretty boys like Fabian, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell of whom I consider to be of zero to mediocre talent. Jack Scott has his own sound with his rich baritone that can be distinguished from the rest of the pack. Unlike Elvis, Roy and Conway, Jack Scott is still very much alive and still out there performing. If he ever comes to my city I would pay good money to see him. There is a 5 cd box set of his work issued in 1992 by Bear Records in Germany. They are selling a box set on Amazon, with similar songs, but it costs a fortune. I borrowed it from my library and didn't cost a thing. Try finding it and you will be glad you did.
