almost gold for little lolly,

This review is from: Jack Sheldon and His All Stars (Audio CD)
Two sessions: from 1957 and 1959. This is great big band music for a nice price, performed by the best musicians of the west coast scene.(see booklet front). Jack Sheldon is brightly recorded en sounds well. The arrangements are good, with space for solo work. The soloist are sometimes a bit far from the mike, or the recording level is too low for some soloists. The overall impression of the recording sound is very acceptable.

Jack Sheldon has been a major player, in every way, in the world of Jazz and classic Big Band music. Not only his trumpet but his voice is totally unique and unforgettable. Cannot recommend enough his recordings. There are quite a few available via the Net and elsewhere, Amazon especially. His Web Site has more information about him. (We believe that he's had a recent stroke and is in seclusion.) But enjoying his live performances, with superb sidemen, has been one totally engaging experience. (He's been playing at Colombos, in Eagle Rock, and at JAX, in Glendale, Ca. as of earlier in 2011.) As a former music producer, I can tell you that being in the room with him playing and singing has been a lifetime experience! (And that's been a very long 'lifetime.')

Two sessions: from 1957 and 1959.Related to the price of this cd it is gold: Jack Sheldon with his somewhat husky trumpet playing in a great big band setting - see the front of the booklet. These are the big boys of the west coast music. Good arrangements, well performed with enough space for solo work. Beautifully recorded!
