THIS GUY ROCKS!,
This review is from: Jack Sheldon Sings (Audio CD)
I had the pleasure of hearing Jack Sheldon's orchestra live in the last few years, so I was excited to find that he has CD's for sale on Amazon!! If you love the big band sound from the late 50's/early 60's you will LOVE his music. He has to be in the top 3 greatest trumpet players of all time. The choice of songs as well as the quality of the recording is amazing, it's like he's playing live right in your home. It's a must have CD for anybody who appreciates fine music. L. Mac

Jack sings the band swings!,

I couldn't imagine Jack singing "Over the Rainbow", but he pulls it off. His trumpet playing is great and the band is made up of the top "cats" in L.A.. It's like the Sinatra sessions with Nelson Riddle. The audio quality is superb. There's not much soloing (except for Jack) which makes this a nice "commercial" CD. Definitely worth having in your library

Absolutely great,

This is a very smooth big band production with Jack Sheldon firmly in control with both his singing, and the horn. The first cut, "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" is my favorite, for Jack's very smooth (Chet Baker tone, Lee Morgan fingers - the best of both) horn intro, then his nice vocal interpretation. Almost every tune on here is spiced with a little Sheldon spunk. Could've lived without another "Over the Rainbow" rendition, though.
Production values seemed excellent to me. If you liked Jack's other CD's you're going to really enjoy this. If you haven't heard Jack before, and prefer a big band sound to a small group, this might be the perfect Jack Sheldon introduction for you. Service and delivery from vendor was excellent.

Never stop smiling,
By
This review is from: Jack Sheldon Sings (Audio CD)
Jack Sheldon has the unique capacity to sing with a sense of humor. I have watched and listened to him throughout the years and never found him to be at a loss for humor. Years ago on the Merv Griffin show where he played trumpet and occasionally sang, he displayed a style that had everyone smiling. There are some people who are born frowners while others are born laughers. Sheldon is a laugher and it comes through in his singing and in his playing. This CD is a clear demonstration of his ability to be joyful in words and in notes. I have many other CD's and tapes of his and on all of them, he never loses that fabulous quality of the smile. Anyone who likes to hear good jazz trumpet and gain the added benefit of a great sense of humor should get this CD.

One of my All-Time Favorites does it again !!,

Only, this time singing! Tasteful, and just plain N I C E !!! But, better than that, the phrasing, vocally and with his horn, fine arrangements as well! Cut 12 is my favorite, almost makes you want to cry from the beauty/emotion (the only other take of that song I heard was a "nice" version by Oscar Castro-Neves, and that wasn't nearly as good (and I love Oscar's work).
A usually "unknown" thing about Jack -- he was a mighty talented actor/comedian -- did a series about 35 years ago called "Run Buddy Run" that was terrific fun, but up against killer competition. A wonderful album for any music lover's collection

I had not heard of Jack Sheldon until recently. He belongs in line with Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker and Louis Prima, each of whom gives extraordinary phrasing in their vocal presentations.

This is one of those rare albums where you can hear Jack sing as well as
play. Very good and well worth it if you are one of his fans. I think he is simply unequaled as a musician.

I've been listening to this CD over and over for a week or two, and it's just so much fun. How can you go wrong with Jack Sheldon's great singing, his soulful, expressive trumpet solos, and his wonderful Big Band. If you're trying to decide whether to buy this CD, and you like good music, you just simply can't go wrong. And if you're in Southern California, make time to go see him play live somewhere. On top of everything else, he's hilarious. I have a real large collection of music and this CD is definitely one of my all time favorites.
