Book Description

* Reached #49 in the Kindle Top 100
* Reached #1 in Police Procedurals

Just two years ago, the media turned Detective John Spader into a hero. He'd caught a twisted serial killer terrorizing Massachusetts, and the "Jack of Spades," as the media dubbed Spader, was born. But when the murderer walked free on a technicality--free to kill again--the public turned on Spader.

Now a new serial killer is on the loose. He wears the silly, gap-toothed, grinning mask of Galaxo, Starboy Avenger!--a cartoon alien of unparalleled popularity with children. With the aid of voice-changing technology in the mask, he speaks in the alien's cheerful, high-pitched, robotic vibrato, the same voice that delights millions of cartoon-watching kids every day. And he does all this while he maims, tortures, and murders his victims. With the body count rising, and the public's fear growing, it's up to the Jack of Spades to find the man beneath the mask and stop the killing.

I REALLY like this author. I have read his other two books -Drawn and Brothers and Bones. I loved both books, along with this one, and I really appreciate how varied the storylines are. Nothing cut and paste here.

"Jack of Spades" is the story about two separate serial killers (or is it only one) and the Massachusetts State Trooper - Detective John Spader - who is doing everything in his power to stop the horrific actions that are happening in or near Salem.

Vivid imagery, in-depth character development, a protagonist with problems but well worth cheering for anyway.

And make sure you have strong stomach for this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rapid Fire Page Turner April 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A psycho is offering his victims a gruesome choice, and the detective known as the Jack of Spades, reeling from a high profile failure and a divorce, struggles to catch him.

JACK OF SPADES explodes out of the starting blocks and never lets up. A wicked page-flipper, this extraordinarily well written and suspenseful novel is guaranteed to keep you up past your bedtime.

The characters are strong and credible and the narrative zips right along, providing a slew of surprises and blind alleys.

It's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars an Ace in my pocket! December 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read "Jack of Spades" with daily pleasure and anticipation. It pulled me along, its numerous reinforcing surprises keeping me eager with curiosity, and the richness of its characters making me think of them throughout my day. (It even inspired me to post on fb how much fun it is to have a great book in my pocket, via Kindle on my phone.) I'm looking forward to reading his other books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put this book down! December 5, 2012

I read this book in a day. I love a story that draws me in and does not let me go until the last page. For lovers of Criminal Minds, this is a perfect fit. Hankins creates very complete characters and complex plot twists. In this book, the victims endured horrific situations but, rather than reveling in goriness, the author allows the reader's imagination to paint the pictures. His writing is classy and does nor resort to cheap sensationalism. This one will keep you guessing AND checking the locks on your doors and windows! I highly recommend it!

A great book that keeps you guessing until the the very end. An excellent study of a deranged mind and the damage done to many innocent people because of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Hankins April 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the third book written by Hankins that I've read. Took me a little longer to get engrossed in this tale (the other two stories were instant) but once I was into it, it was another page turner. Left me wanting more of Jack and I can easily see a sequel coming...hope I'm right!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyed! December 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love all of the local atmosphere in this book. It is a thriller that left me guessing through the whole story. I find my attention span is challenged when reading most fiction and I skip through some of the minutiae. But, no such skipping with this writer, he has you "hooked" throughout the entire story!! I would have given ten stars if I could!
