If you're a pattern fanatic like I am, this book is a must. Knitter's always has some of the greatest designs and they do not disappoint with this book. While most of the patterns are above beginner level, they shouldn't be considered to be off limits for beginners. It's a perfect inspiration and starting point for new knitters who would like to take the plunge into something other than scarves. Basic jacket structures helps new knitters understand how they are put together and removes some of the scary mystery. Intermediate knitters will enjoy it because of the intriguing designs and advanced knitters will find it enjoyable because the patterns are adaptable to personal creativity. The pattern/color combinations and designs add zing for everyone.

I've purchased quite a few of the xrx 'best of' or 'knitter's dozen' books. It's so much easier than sorting through all my back issues of Knitter's. I love the mix of styles and techniques, and the fact that they've 're-knit' some of the older patterns with new [available]yarns. I do wish they would include the original publication info. And it would be nice if the index included thumbnail pix of the projects.

Great work jackets!,

I was very impressed with this book-- it has several designs that I plan to make. My work is fairly relaxed business wear, but this book has several choices that you could wear even in a more dressy environment. It also seems to run the gamut of beginner knits to more challenging designs, including one that uses 3 colors to simulate a woven tweed. Very nice! While I can't speak to how well-written these particular patterns are, I do have another Best of Knitter's book whose patterns are very easy to follow. Overall, a great book, especially for the price!

Classic Jackets for Today's Woman,

This review is from: Jackets-For Work & Play (Best of Knitter's Magazine series) (Paperback)
Every once in awhile a knitting book is published that is filled to the brim with classic, elegant, refined fashions perfect for today's professional woman. "Jackets for Work and Play" is just that -- a goldmine of designs for women who want to look great without being too trendy. A perennial designer of great knitted jackets for women, Jean Frost, is a major contributor to this volume. Her designs are interesting without being excessively complicated -- a real plus for the busy working knitter. I found both causal and dressy designs that I can't wait to knit for myself. This book is a real winner!!!

I love this book. It is hard to know which jacket to try first. The styles should appeal to a broad range of ages.

Don't get discouraged by the unattractive yarns used in the pictures. Look at the design and construction. I have plans to knit a couple of the patterns, which I'm sure will be quite satisfactory when using more pleasing yarns.

Patterns in this book should appeal to a variety of tastes. Jackets are attractive, patterns well written and easy to follow. A good addition to a knitter's library.
