Scent of Murder is a gritty police thriller from veteran law enforcement agent and author James O. Born.

Book Description

Jackie Blue is a twenty-six year old insurance investigator who lives in East LA. Her job consists of insurance fraud claims and is far from glamorous, but it does pay the bills and allow her to pay her younger sister Lucy's college tuition. When she gets a call from one of the insurance companies wanting her to check out a $1.9 million dollar stolen diamond claim, her first stop is to check the insured person's house for clues. When she finds a dead body she quickly realizes that this case is much bigger than she normally deals with, so ex beau/bounty hunter Hugh Barclay and her friend Rocky jump in to help. Several gunshots, and a few clues later, Jackie and the gang try to stay one step ahead of the criminals and stop the jewel heist.

I am a huge fan of fast paced mysteries, and TG Davis has delivered in spades with "Jackie Blue." Rock solid characters really make this story stand out! Jackie Blue is as down to earth as you can get. She lives in a mobile home while trying to put her sister through college. Jackie is a strong character who isn't afraid to jump in when her help is needed. One scene where she uses a stun gun seemed serious but the author throws a twist that had me laughing instead. Her family and friends are an interesting bunch to say the least. From her best friend Rocky, who is looking for a relationship, to the flatulence issues that abound in Jackie's parents home, TG Davis has created several memorable characters in this story. TG Davis weaves several twists that had me wondering what might happen next! I felt like I was pulled right along helping Jackie and the gang try to figure out what was going on. The ending was certainly satisfying and surprising and left me anticipating the next installment in the series!

There are several elements blended together, such as mystery, humor, suspense, romance, and family relationships to make this a great read that you will not want to put down!

The story offers the reader some wild twists, turns and surprises. TG Davis has created an interesting female investigator. Fans of Stephanie Plum will find themselves liking Jackie Blue just as much. She is witty, daring and very likable. TG Davis captures your attention from the start and pulls you right into the story. It is impossible not to cheer Jackie, Rocky and Hugh as they solve the case. "Jackie Blue" is the first installment of the series and you cannot help but wait anxiously for her next investigation. If you are a mystery/sleuth fan, young or old, man or woman, you will want to check out the new "Jackie Blue" book.

Jackie Blue is not a hard boiled mystery, but a humorous mystery filled with high-jinx. A very entertaining way to spend a few hours with a good storyline, well-developed characters and a quirky plot. Enjoyed this book very much. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Blue November 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found the Jackie Blue character to be very appealing, with strong family values and very funny. Jackie lives in a trailer park so as to fund her kid sister's college expenses. The pace of the novel keeps you turning pages as the plot unfolds into less about solving a stolen diamond case and more about trying to bring down a global jewel theft organization that has its claws wrapped around one of the characters, Frank, the customs officer. The Iranian mob sub plot I thought was pretty original. And two of the main characters do not turn out to be who they were throughout the novel in the fantastic ending of the story. I won't blow it, but the end had me shocked to say the least. Definitely one of the better mystery endings I've read in a while. The dialogue throughout is super casual which I thought added to the characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Blue December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a free download of "Jackie Blue" by T.G. Davis, to read on my Kindle in exchange for an honest review. This is a mystery/woman sleuth novel with elements of humor, romance and crime.I really liked it.

Jackie Blue is a twenty-six year old private investigator who works in East LA. Her job usually consists of insurance fraud claims, individuals that are cheating on their insurance (WCB), WC fraud.I worked in the government at WSIB,for over twenty years, so this book was of interest to me.I found myself laughing seeing Jackie hiding behind bushes waiting to take incriminating pictures that will terminate the claim. But she needs this job to pay the bills and allow her to pay her younger sister Lucy's college tuition.

Then her break comes when she gets a call from one of the insurance companies wanting her to check out a 1.9 million dollar stolen diamond claim.Mr. Andy Stewart claims 1.9 million dollars of diamonds was stolen at his house last month, and they need to find them. When Jackie picks the lock of the condo belonging to Mr. Stewart, she gets more than she bargained for... she finds a dead woman's body in the bedroom. She wasn't used to handling cases like this. She makes a quick call to her bounty hunter ex-boyfriend Hugh Barclay for help. Her best friend Rocky also becomes involved. After lots of gunfire, they started to fear for their lives. Would Jackie and her friends solve this jewel heist and make it out alive? A very surprising ending!

This was a fast paced novel, with believable characters, that had you flipping the pages to see what would happen next.An enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read February 2, 2013
By Enrico
Format:Kindle Edition
I quite enjoyed this. Jackie is a female investigator doing small time workers comp cases for an insurance company. When his boss gives her an assignment to investigate a $1.9 million jewelry theft, she looks at it as a significant step up in her career ladder. But the case is far from simple and when she comes across the first of the bodies, a woman with a bullet hole in her forehead, she knows she's not in Kansas anymore. But she is a big girl and is determined to tough it out. The novel is filled with colorful characters from Jackie's trailer park landlords, to her macho bounty hunter ex-boyfriend Hugh (he of the Walther and cowboy attitude) to her friend Rocky Venezuela, a probation officer who deals with small crime cases, the last three suddenly thrown into the big leagues. The novel is quirky and colored with a jaunty narrative. Four solid stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining!! December 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jackie Blue by TG Davis is a mystery with a superb dose of humor mixed in. I smiled through this whole book. Davis did an outstanding job in creating characters who really shined.

Jackie is an investigator for insurance companies, it's her job to be sure that the claims are true and fraud isn't involved. Things heat up early on when she's hired to investigate 1.9 million dollars in stolen diamonds. She goes from hiding in bushes and snapping pictures, to stumbling upon a woman's dead body. Along with her best friend Rocky and hunky X-boyfriend Hugh, Jackie is thrown head first into something much more than just an insurance claim. But who is really behind everything? I highly recommend you download your copy to find out the great twist at the end.

I really enjoyed Jackie Blue and look forward to Davis bringing Jackie, Rocky, and Hugh back for another highly entertaining and fun book 2! I hope TG is typing away as we speak!

That Ending - WOW
Wendy, a group of us is trying madly to get the word out on this book. I wanna meet the real Jackie Blue in person, that's how nuts I am about her...yeah yeah, I know she's a fictional character. BUT STILL. I don't know if TG DAVIS is a woman or a man, though I can't imagine a guy could come up... Read More
