When I saw the title of the CD "Jackie Blue" I thought maybe A&M wised up and released "It'll Shine When It Shines" on CD. NO such luck. I must say...this lastest CD DOES include some great OMD tunes and it's a great start for someone new to the unique sound that is the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. But "It'll Shine When It Shines" needs to be released in its entirety
Recorded on an abandoned farm in the 70s it has that stark but nostalgic feel. No other recording has ever came close to capturing that feel that the complete album gives you.
Here's hoping the right person reads this and others like it and gives OMD fans what they've been hoping for ...."It'll Shine When It Shines" on CD!
of course....."you might think I'm wasting time but I'm just a good old boy that's learned to wait...."

If you like the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, I suggest you buy some of their original stuff. This is all re-recorded and it is not nearly as good.

Like the other reviewer I am puzzled as to why A+M has not put " It'll Shines When It Shines " onto CD. I recently bought a copy of 'Shines' on an LP from GEMM, not a bad copy but not great either. Nevertheless, it was 13 bucks well spent. I listened to the 8-track of 'Shines' until I wore it out. It was 1975, I was in college and having a great time. I would get home from classes, slap the 'Shines' 8 track home and get royally roasted. Two 'hidden' gems from 'Shines' are " Look Away " and " Lowlands ". The latter song is one of the most saddest songs I have ever heard. One of the most beautiful too. I highly recommend to every Ozark Mountain DD fan to get the " It'll Shine When It Shines " album, someway somehow.

If you are considering ordering this CD thinking it is a greatest hits package of the songs you remember from the 1970s, you'd only be partially correct. It seems that the band RERECORDED the old classics. This is particularly evident when you hear the title track, "Jackie Blue". To the band's credit, however, this fact is listed on back of the CD. But it would not be evident, of course, for Internet orders...be forewarned.

Great songs, great band and a reasonable "Best of" of their early releases. But, to support other Ozark fans on this page, why oh why wasn't the Ozarks' classic 2nd album "It'll Shine When It Shines" released on CD instead? Ozark fans have been patiently waiting for a long time to hear "Lowlands" and "It Couldn't be Better" (and it really couldn't) on CD. Nevertheless, in the absence of "It'll Shine.." this has to be recommended as the next best thing.

Having this album is better than having no Ozark Mountain Daredevils. But I found the quality of the recordings lack an edge that the originals had. For instance, in "Walking Down The Road", the orginal had an acoustic guitar solo that was one of my favorites. They replaced that with an unimaginative electric solo on this album.
That being said, I am listening to it again right now because the Daredevils had an original sound that I still love, and this album captures it close enough to enjoy.
I am confused about what happened to this band. Why did they record this album? Why haven't they released "It'll Shine When It Shines" and "Car Over the Lake" on CD? I would much rather have had those albums than this.

Being a (sort of) collector of unusual CD packaging, I came across this in my local music store and thought it would be interesting to have just because of the neat metal box. I have a problem with it, though. These are remakes, not the originals. And, they aren't as good as the originals. I blame myself for being mislead. Even though it DOES NOT
state on the box anywhere that they are remakes, I bought it anyway. I really should have known better.
So, two stars for the neat metal box, one star for the inferior remakes, and minus ten for the deception.
Also, minus five for all the pain I've experienced trying to kick myself.

I am bummed that It'll Shine When It Shines is not on cd; an album that I really love, one of the three records I kept when I dumped my vinyl. Great road music, wore out a maxell cassette, listened to this thing lots. Anyone got a copy of this burned onto cd and would like to make a friend???

EDIT 3/10/2006 - The years have surely flown by.

A real nice guy from Boulder Colorado did in fact burn me a copy of 'It'll Shine When It Shines' off of an album he had. Great guy. And now of course it is out on CD but I surely have kept the copy he made me, kept it for sentimental reasons, nice to know that there are folks out there who will help you out.

It'll shine when it shines
And you might think I'm wasting time
But I'm just a good old boy
That's learned to wait -
Yeah I'm just a good old boy that's learned to wait
