Luc4, 'Nice seeing you, too! 'Frisco, PeabodyS, JamesNeel & others. 'Quite an evening, and great to see that long table full of people wearing special buttons in UMAMIcatessen. Better yet seeing our young lady take us all somewhere new, yet still familiar.
My uncle was overwhelmed...quiet all of way home. His second concert ever in his 83 years. His second Jackie concert. 'Wouldn't stop shaking my hand when I got him home.
Doc....so glad to finally see that somebody else thought the Christmas album of last year wasn't horrible. I too liked the arrangements. Of course, that may be because the wind section got to play!! Much more from the french horns and oboes and the such. My training as a woodwind teacher may explain why I particularly enjoyed it. The Orchestra of St. Lukes did a great job. Jackie sang superbly as usual.
I disagree on that viewpoint and believe that sort of seemingly blind devotion (you can do no wrong , and\or even if I think you are have, I won't say anything) actually demonstrates a certain, albeit latent, lack of respect. Just as with a personal friend, coworker, loved one, your president, your country, or any other person or thing you care about...I believe expressions of differing opinions are gestures of honesty and respect, the most genuine deeds of loyalty.
Sorry Doc - the LA Times seems to be in a time warp - those are the Billboard top albums listings from a year ago - June 2011 when Dream With Me debut at #2 behind Bad meets Evil ( Eminem).
What do you want from newspaper that sent someone to review the Lil Kim's concert instead of Jackie Evancho last night! Although it was interesting to note in the LA Times Lil Kim review:
"Matters weren't helped by the presence of four videographers camped right onstage (Kim's tour is being filmed for a documentary) as well as several still photographers who at times positioned themselves center stage for a shot. "
Hmmm - there you go! If the Evanchos want to ban all fan videos - maybe they should be doing a tour documentary themselves too!! - A tour documentary would sell like hotcakes!
Trancas...correct me if I am wrong, but was last night the second Jackie concert you have attended, with Dallas being the first? If I am right...I would be interested in your comparison of the two if that is even possible. Dallas was certainly magic for us!!!! Thanks!!
@Gern If I have a problem with a friend or co worker, I wouldn't call a meeting of "friends" to coach my friend on what he or she did wrong. Blind devotion (with fandom) is idiotic. By the same token, to hang out soemone else's dirty laundry for the world to see isn't exactly fandom either....Honesty and is commendable when such is done in private ... not in public... and this forum is public.
Curious to know from those who attended the concert. Were there any signs posted, notes on tickets or announcements at the concert regard photographs or other recordings of the event by audience members?
@Gern DoI think its that bad ! Respectfully, Yes. Its beyond pathetic what goes on here. And I've been on this forum for over a year and a half. Mike's admonition was on his daughter's (therefore his) website. His right to do as he wishes. He didn't announce this on TV or radio to the entire US population...just on his daughter's website. What that has to do with cancelling Jackie's account on facebook or twitter , I'm not clear about. I agree with you that too much credence is given to a small number of participants. But I see so many on here brag about their credentials and their right to express their opinions and still profess their allegience to Jackie and her family. Yeah right ! Where do they think people like Norman Lebrecht get their information from... I can get every post on this forum on my email without even trying... and I do. I've tracked NL's blog and guess what... He's really not all that interested in Jackie unless some pompous individual on this forum provides him with some juicy speculation / so called expert opinion on Jackie's career and particularly how incapable Mike E is in handling Jackie's career. Of course it isn't a big stretch of the imagination to take Mike's inability and turn that into a money grabbing parent using his child for profit...sound familiar ? And how could that vile person, NL, say such vindictive things? Because some pompous ass on this website provided him the opportuntiy and information ? A Jackie Fan !!
It seems to me that Mike is the one that felt betrayed and hurt and people have sorta turned it around back on Him. How dare he have real feelings. (sarcasm) Everybody has a different perspective which causes a lot of misunderstanding from both sides of the fence. Question is do we or will we learn from our mistakes and become better human beings.
It's funny to me that people here are still calling the Orpheum shoot a concert. It wasn't a concert at all. It was a TV production shoot. A concert doesn't start and stop songs, doesn't do songs over, doesn't stop to read off a teleprompter etc.....This would not begin to compare to a regular concert other than Jackie did a great job singing.
Mrs. D, This was my 9th time seeing her live (if you'll let me count 3 Jay Leno appearances). Hitman Returns at the Mandalay, Celebrity Fight Night, Dallas, DFoz and Jackie at the Mandalay (my daughter sang that night), the Nokia concert, and now the Orpheum.
Number 10 will be at Ironstone, where I'll be treating friends who live there (and have let me stay at their B&B for years), their opera-trained daughter, high school friends celebrating their anniversary (I was their Best Man), and my birthday again (I have 8 tickets).
Dallas was magic for me, too. Everything came together: Jackie, Maestro Kitsopoulos and the orchestra, the crowd, the atmosphere. It also was my 60th birthday. I wouldn't have rather been anywhere else that evening. Frisco got us 2nd row seats, about 15 feet away from Jackie. Again, there was no program, but I was able to read the music titles from the Concertmaster's music stand (that's being close). There were no production distractions. Just incredible music, and a performer-to-audience feedback loop like I have never witnessed before or since.
To me, the Orpheum was just a small notch below, and better than I had expected given the distraction of the production needs. Jackie's voice just keeps getting richer, her earnest and honest delivery more captivating, and her joy more infectious. Each time I've seen her perform there have been incremental improvements...as hard as it is for me to believe. This is going to be a great show for PBS, and her performance of the songs in it is going to make a lot of people take notice and revisit some music that hasn't been performed very much, or for some time. The studio CD and the live performance CD are once again going to do battle for my playing time.
I've not yet seen a bad Jackie performance. They all have ranged from simply excellent to unbelievable IMNSHO. But what do I know? I'm a 13-year choir dad. I know and appreciate complex music sung properly and on-key. I have a soprano daughter with a wonderful voice who is back in training. I play keyboards (piano to squeezebox), read music, and provide and operate audio/visual and stage lighting equipment to hotel conventions and special events. But I'll leave the technical critiquing and nit-picking to others. Jackie I simply choose to enjoy.
RE: The comments by some Fans here on the Discussion of Jackie's Management Team's lack of professionalism and quality results for Jackie
There are some Fans here that appear to value Jackie's Parents, her other Management Team Members and Sony more than Jackie. They continually praise those people, who Jackie is supporting financially, even when they have made horrible decisions, which have cost Jackie additional Market Recognition and Exposure - along with the resulting stagnation (or loss) of sales at levels below what should have been possible. Those people have a sense of blind adoration for the people who are responsible to Jackie (her Management Team) regardless of their mistakes or the cost to Jackie's present and future Music Career. These misguided "Fans" don't seem to know where their loyalties belong, with respect to Jackie, and condemn the Fans who expose the Management Team Member's failure to provide Jackie with the quality of professional services necessary to advance her Career - as the quality Professional Management Teams of many other successful Music Artists have done for them. These people even claim the Fans reporting on Jackie's Management Team failures are in some way(?) causing harm to Jackie by pointing out the failures of her Management Team, who she is supporting financially, as if those exposing their evident lack of quality support is somehow the fault of the Fans who are discussing their mistakes.
The "Fans" who are supporting those who are failing to provide Jackie with quality Management and less than quality results do not seem to consider Jackie's losses, which (in many cases) shall linger for more than a year and probably a lot longer. Some of the posts from those who consider Jackie's Management Team Members deserving of idolation are making every excuse possible to Justify the misguided (faulty) actions of those people on Jackie's Management Team. One common excuse is to claim the people exposing their disrespectful ineptitude toward providing Jackie with quality management services is: those exposing their failure can't possibly know all that goes on behind closed doors - like that would Justify the lack of quality results.
Anybody who has followed the Careers of Music Superstars know what their Professional Management Teams have done to achieve such results. Nobody has to be in the room in order to know what caused the problems that have prevented Jackie's Fan Base from rapidly expanding instead of stagnating at such low numbers or to determine the reason for Jackie's low Sales Numbers and less than adequate Ticket Sales for her Concerts. If asked, I will provide a few examples of why you don't have to be in the room to know why no such horrible results have occurred in relationship to other Artists who have quality Professional Management Teams.
I really don't understand why people calling themselves Jackie Fans are so intent about defending those who have and still are living off Jackie's earnings while failing to give Jackie the services and management performance she deserves.
People here claim they are Jackie fans. The Jackie fans I know and respect would never cross that line and criticise her Parents, such as the way Mike is handling her career. Thats crazy! They respect any decision they've made. But they also put themselves in their shoes and understand their decisions.
Freedom of speech doesnt include defamation or slander. Use of words like "amatuer" are offensive. Also when you do this, you are telling other people its okay to criticise her Parents. Like its open season. Its wrong on every level and its not okay! We should not be encouraging this! Respect their decisions if you indeed are a fan!
Why should anybody have to respect Jackie's Parents Management of Jackie's Career in order to be a Jackie Fan? When have the Fans of any other Artist been qualified by whether or not they respect the Artist's Parents? People can respect Jackie's Parents for their quality as parents without respecting the mistakes they have made in attempting to Manage her Career without any experience or knowledge necessary to perform at the professional level, in any way, that is related to Music Industry professions.
What relationship does my ego play in supporting or promoting Jackie or in stating the ineptitude and horrible performance of the people Jackie is paying to Manage her Career?
EDIT ADD: Furthermore, what am I jealous of regarding Jackie's Management Team Members? I have never been jealous of people who fail to perform at the professional level in their occupation. These people are being paid by Jackie and not achieving the kind of quality results for her that other successful Music Artists have received from their Professional Management Teams.
I believe that post was aimed at people like JF, who in post after post belittle what Mike and others on the Evancho team do in managing Jackie's career. They are like all "know it all's" who have answers to problems that don't exist.
