Thanks for this Article Charles.

One interesting fact in that Article, for those who didn't go there and read it: The following was stated after a Simon Cowell quote. "Jackie has already sold 1.5 million albums in the US."

Since Jackie only has one Album for sale in the US, that would mean "Oh Holy Night" is now half way to becoming Double Platinum; and, judging from the way it has been selling over the last couple of weeks, that could happen between now and Christmas.

Depending on how much of a boost the DWM Promotion keeps giving it, OHN could even become Double Platinum before the Christmas Season and be well on the way to Triple Platinum by the end of the Christmas Season.

GO JACKIE!!!

Thanks Al. What happened to the radio plan(s) ? I did see that Mike Evancho endorsed fans sites in general ( authorized or not )as a good thing on FB . The only thing he did NOT want was folks pretending to be Jackie. At least that's the way I saw it .

re: Jackie fan sites

Action item: the Evancho's official fan site really, really needs to include links to real fan sites and a list of fake ones.

There's a burgeoning phenomenon in the Internet: fake websites slapped together by hired content providers, designed to attract visitors, thus getting money from advertisers for clicks generated. The sites look like actual fan sites superficially, but if you spend a few seconds you'll notice that it's not a fan site--it's a fake, not assembled by or for actual fans.

I went through the first 30 links generated by Googling "Jackie Evancho fan" and all but a couple were fakes.

This means that someone looking for actual Jackie fansites will be forced to wade through one fake after another. I suspect many will give up.

I was especially disappointed because Google recently changed its search algorithm to try to weed out these "empty calorie" websites, all of which are designed not just to attract visitors without giving them anything--and thus to rob advertisers of actual advertising impressions--but they're also designed to game Google's search algorithm so they'll wind up on top, pushing valid sites down the stack.

You might call them Crabgrass webites--noxious, worthless invasive weeds.

So Google had failed at designing a system to keep them out. That means it's up to us, the fans, to warn the Evanchos--and to strongly encourage the Evanchos to take this threat to their grassroots marketing seriously. I'll list my findings in a subsequent post, just in case Amazon doesn't let me post a comment with so many URLs. If it won't let me I'll put in on my arts blog and link to that from here.

I don't really see "grassroots" marketing. Grassroots or viral marketing isn't created by the artist. It comes from fans spontaneously generating fansites. So far, those don't exist, and that's unfortunate and a bit of a handicap, I think.

So far, there's no where to pull fans in to a "fandom" after events they may see. Fandoms contain the most active fans who are willing to buy multiple copies, call radio stations, write to bloggers, etc. Thousands of members of a fandom can make a big difference.

It really is puzzling to me why there aren't these fansites. Most talent show contestants end up having at least one. Hmmmm.......

EDIT ADDS:
He also did not want people using Jackie's name in order to sell "non-approved and non-contracted products" in violation of the Copyright Laws. I will discuss that subject in my next posts below.

You were one of the few people who have posted on the "General Discussion on Developing a Fan Organization, Street & Internet Teams" since I moved the conversation on that issue from the "People's Thread (Anything about Jackie and music of any kind)" on 24 April. The others were Richard J. Sotter, Ehkzu and MAwriter (just last night).

I had felt there were more people (here) interested in being involved. Based on the lack of enough people here, I have began developing Teams elsewhere and have more than 300 volunteers beginning to form into Team organizations using the same approach we used when establishing Carrie Underwood's Teams over 5 years ago - in fact most of those are a part of this effort for Jackie now. These people are for the most part, employees of my companies and several affiliate companies in over 7 very large market areas throughout the Nation. And they all volunteered of their own free will - as my organizations are literally free speech and action environments to the exact meaning of those words. We only had to play Jackie's Music (over the sound systems) for about 5 days before switching back to Carrie, when there was an uproar about getting Jackie back on the play list - by then I had mucho volunteers to help Jackie.

<Picture a big - laughing - smile here.>

Anyway, if enough people are willing to join the discussions in the the "General Discussion on Developing a Fan Organization, Street & Internet Teams" Thread, I am willing to spend the time necessary to begin something over there.

How many of the people here are ready to help get this off the ground?

RE: Fan Sites Part 1 Response

I read your posts over on the "General Discussion on Developing a Fan Organization, Street & Internet Teams" and here tonight - the ones after I gave up on the project there.

LA Sunny Day posted there about Michael Evancho's comments on Facebook regarding the Private Fan Site issue. See below:

Posted on Apr 29, 2011 4:03:37 PM PDT
LA Sunny Day says:

Mike Evancho chimed in on Fan sites. Would seem to support Al's position. Posted yesterday on Facebook - regarding sites using Jackie's name in some way or form:

"You can't stop fan sites which all but I think three of them are. I don't see them as a bad thing. Some people don't want to come here (Facebook), others don't want to go there, and still others just want to start their own. All are doing the same thing, promoting Jackie. Now how can that be bad?
-mike-"

I am talking with some people who have participated with me on bringing up some new Fan Sites for other Artists now. If we do it, a new Site would be password protected, the young people would have reasonable protection against harassment of any kind (including screen names that do not reveal their identity), there will be a password protected Media Archives, it will support the organization of Street and Internet Promotional Team activities, it will not have any advertising links, it will be FREE to the Fans and it will Market Jackie's Music and Promotional Products through Contracted Links to those Sites - Administrators and all other Management participants and Moderators will be screened volunteers.

Some of the people that are participating in these conversations are Audio and Video Engineers that work in the Movie and Entertainment Industry and whose work is some of the most professional you will ever see - to enhance and provide special Jackie Media that will not be violations of any copyright laws.

RE: Fan Sites Part 2 Response

MAwriter posted about an existing Private Jackie Fan Site that Nicola had talked about on this Thread, a few weeks ago when things were going south on this thread again. That post is over at the "General Discussion on Developing a Fan Organization, Street & Internet Teams" Thread.

The URL to that Site is:
http://www.jackiefans.net/

This appears to be a Privately Owned and Moderated Fan Site with 72 Members, according to their Front Page. It seems like they have a nice setup, but I have not registered there and do not know their full potential yet. One night, when browsing the open Threads that did not require a registration to view (shown on the Front Page), I saw that Michael E. and Nicola had posted there. So Lisa might be able to tell us what they think of the Site; and, Nicola had posted here about us moving to that Site during a time when Trolls (outside and IN) were busy trashing our Threads here. Nothing happened though - and unless Lisa will post there, on a reasonable basis, I see no hope of a mass exodus to that Site anytime soon.

I know how to populate a new Fan Site and you can look at "you know who's" if you want an example of what can be accomplished over a period of less than a year. It will not be any short timeframe if I decide to go ahead (because of business commitments); therefore, it might be worth the effort for everybody to check out the subject Jackie Fan Site and get involved there, at least on a part time basis - each day or evening. It seems like the People responsible for that Site truly care for Jackie and her market image.

@Fanoli

As stated before, I concur with your audience reaction position.... the only key discussion of it was in that Jackie feeds off of the feedback and is used to standing Os wherever she performs. I had thought that SONY/13PROD. would prefer a controlled or controllable audience over, say, a BOCA audience, but I was just hoping that Jackie would not be shocked by a "polite" audience. She feeds on the adulation/love/bravos, and then sends that love back out with her persona and song/singing. Regardless of the audience, Jackie proved AGAIN that night that she is a true performer by the duration and ability, and the audience was/is not the necessary factor. After all, to expect all audiences to stand after every song is also unrealistic (but was the normal, as I saw it in Boston, Boca, Phoenix.... each song got one).
Heck, DFOZ had to prod or signal the audience at the end to give her a standing O with his arm gestures. THAT was the oddest thing for me to see. But with the production stuff going on, no one really knew of a definitive FINISH point. Plus, after 2 hrs of Miss Evancho, many, if not all were in a daze... mesmerized by the 'night'.

In many ways, the PBS show will be more valuable to any fan.... more developed, live experience, visuals that so many love as part of that HEALING, calming effect.

@Chaz Hoff...
you may have to get a VIDEO screen for your vehicle for your long drives... so if you hit a real nasty traffic jam, you can then watch Jackie, rather than just listen... BUT DO not attempt while driving as Jackie would not need that burden of you causing havoc on the road, with your eyes on the screen vs. the road and mirrors!!!!
(Was that being too parental>??)
;-)

@Ehkzu
please define FAKE fan site. IF a real fan starts a blog/site, etc, how can that be a fake? Not sanctioned, maybe, not linked on any official site, but a fan site nevertheless. Sorry, I will not go to all those links you listed... maybe some of the below applies to them.

Why does everyone want to always control others? Let it be, unless they are just trying to use Jackie NOT as a fan, but a way to derive traffic for some other reason... NOW THAT would be a fake.
OR if they are giving away her music for free... a rip off site.

RE: http://www.jackiefans.net/

This site is owned by Phil Madden and to the best of my knowledge he is an all right guy and a devout Jackie fan.

You may be aware of the YT video "Pray for Japan" where Jackie is singing "Angel" over the photos of the sunami distruction. Phil created the video. I'm at work and YT is blocked on my company computer so I don't have the link to the video.

Haydon says:
This may not mean much to anyone else but it's a milestone in my life since I found out about Jackie in November last year.
It's lunchtime here (UK). A colleague just came up to me and said, quote: "You know that girl singer you were going on about .. Did you know she's coming over here?". She's just read it on the Sun (newspaper) website.
It's a milestone because no one else has ever STARTED a conversation with me about Jackie before. Could be a sign of things to come.

Here is the link to the "Pray for Japan" video combined with Jackie's "Angel" created by Phil. It really packs an emotional wallop as you can see by reading the comments. It will be take years before the catastrophes in Japan heal the nation. There are several links in the video for contributing to relief efforts. Please consider donating.

@ Ehkzu - lots of work but maybe you should provide this list to the Evanchos and let them make the call without your personal comments FIRST, as to what is real or Fake? For example Myplay.com is most definitely REAL - it is run and set up by a SONY owned subsidiary. Declaring something Fake when it is real , does much more harm than good. Tons of work to "unring that bell" - sometimes you never can.

@Al, re the 1.5 million sold quote .. I commented on that several days ago as I had seen it in some other link (can't remember where). At that point no one seemed to be able to confirm 1.5 million in sales. I expect it is true or Simon wouldn't be making that statement but it would be interesting to see it confirmed somehow. Anyway, regardless of getting confirmation I also say GO JACKIE!!!

Interesting ... there is a post on Facebook about Jackie singing "Danny Boy". From the comments it seems like if you order something from the Jackie Store you get something in your email that gets you this song.

Edit: If you order DWM from the store you get the exclusive recording of "Danny Boy" with Chris Botti.

Edit to the edit: Jackie's rendition of Danny Boy is beautiful. It was my mothers favorite song and she would have loved to hear Jackie sing it.

I guess Jackie's trip to youtube is paying off. Late last night while watching her PBS "Angel" (again)on vevo her hits changed from less than 700 to over 25000. This morning it is over 39000. It was a featured video. It's on fire and the comments are coming from people who are not who you would consider followers. I think this will help cd release. That last 30 seconds of "Angel" is just beautiful.

In reply to an earlier post on May 13, 2011 9:23:30 AM PDT
Yes, I think that trip to California to meet Google and YouTube paid off. I see "Angel" as a promoted video on many of my YouTube searches, as well as ads for DWM. It's interesting to experiment as to which searches turn those up -- she doesn't appear if you search for something in a vastly different genre.

Wherever her video was promoted last night they hit the mother lode. Those comments were flying in last night. Mostly positive.
