Editorial Reviews

The first show of 1962 with guest Art Carney. Wayne Newton and his brothers are guest stars. Frank Fontaine is Crazy Guggenheim and tells Joe the Bartender about "The Hustler". This program features a special "Honeymooners" sketch where they argue about vacationing in Atlantic City or a fallout shelter. The AMERICAN SCENE ran from September 29, 1962 to June 1966 on CBS. This is classic Jackie Gleason television at its finest. "How sweet it is!"

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. but not outstanding, August 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Jackie Gleason American Scene (VHS Tape)
If you are a Jackie Gleason fan, this tape may well be worth the purchase. I think Gleason hit his highest moments in the 50s vs. the 60s. Still, it was funny nontheless. I only bought this tape because it included a skit of The Honeymooners. It was funny but not the same; the 60s Honeymooners did not include Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph so I did not find the skit as good. (Sue Ann Langdon played Alice and Patrica Wilson played Trixie; note the cover on the video is wrong.) Buy a used copy as I did and you are better off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correction on cast, December 9, 2006
This review is from: The Jackie Gleason American Scene (VHS Tape)
Note that Patricia Wilson and Sue Ann Langdon played Trixie and Alice in the Honeymooner's skit not Jane Kane and Sheila MacCrae as noted on the box.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, November 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Jackie Gleason American Scene (VHS Tape)
Too bad the quality of this great television show and the June Taylor Dancers is so poor. These shows should be remastered so we can really see Jackie and the dancers instead of the fuzzy, flipping, scratched film.
