Gr 6 Up The life of Jackie Robinson, the first black baseball player in the National League, is presented along with black - and - white photographs depicting events from his successes. A forward by Coretta Scott King and a chronology, along with the accurate and smooth flowing text, provide insights into Robinson's personal and professional struggles to succeed. Dialogue and description provide glimpses into his life and the people who influenced him. Most of the photographs add visual meaning to the descriptions, but some bear no relationship to the printed events.
